Wet and sloppy with a splash of barbecue sauce.

Casserole-style is like eating ice cream with freezer burn on it.

I have no preference, but don’t you dare put no velveta
cheese and ham in it.

Just a thin layer on top to keep it from being dry like a pine comb.

The rest of the cheese will drown out the flavor.

Wet but in a casserole dish with extra cheese on top to get a cheese crust. Not the casserole with eggs in it.

That can be controlled with the baking time.

Think about it, baked mac & cheese is just a béchamel with cheese melted in mixed with pasta and usually more grated cheese. Everything is edible in the unbaked state. If you like a wetter baked mac & cheese just reduce the bake time by switching to broil earlier to get some color on the top layer of cheese if you like that.

I will eat the boxed M&C and Cracker Barrel makes a line of different cheeses/flavors that is much better than the Kraft Deluxe and Velveeta. Great Value has a knock off of those that is good too. I like to steam a bag of broccoli florets and mix them in which adds a little nutrition to let's be honest what is a big pile of ultra-processed food.

While baked M&C is chock full of fat (at least the way I make it) the butter, flour, pasta, and grated (from block) cheese is much closer to real food. I much prefer it, but it takes a lot more time to make and creates quite a mess.

This is the one I made Thursday, it wasn't dry at all, but if you wanted it wetter you could just shorten the cook time.

I messed up the mac and cheese last year. It was the casserole type. The directions had too many noodles and it cause the milk and cream mixture to boil out of the casserole dish. When some of it boiled out, it ended up on the stove bottom and started to burn which caused the stove to become smokey. The mac and cheese edible, but it had a smokey taste to it unfortunately. The one positive is that I was only asked just to bring ice and drinks this year.
