With the exception of LSU’s campus, I rarely see positive posts about BR on tis board.

Is it true, or is the shitholiness exagerated?

Not as big a shithole as the entire state of Alabama.

Outside of LSU, BR is NOLA with none of the good stuff.

ETA: Forgot that they don't have to deal with NOLA Sewage and Water, so they have that going for them.

I do have fond memories of the almost decade I spent in BR, even though I'd never move back.

Overall it’s a shite hole

You have some really nice areas but the cost of living is too high for what BR offers.

Depends where you are in the city.

On the whole, yes, I'd classify BR as a shithole. But it's MY shithole!

I never did when I lived there.

Moved away in my 20s and still didn't think of it as a shithole.

Now, in my 50s, when I go back, I hardly recognize the place. And yes, there's a lot more shithole there than there used to be.

NBR is a shithole of epic proportions. The majority of SBR is fine minus a few areas.

The city proper is not a whole lot different than Little Rock, Birmingham, Shreveport etc. Some nice areas. Lots of culcha.

The areas where the household income is above 70k are nice.

The areas where the income is lower isn't.

Same as everywhere.

Absolutely. If you aren’t on campus I don’t know what you’re doing there.

my take on BR

a great portion of it is an utter shithole

there are some really nice areas that i still don't understand how people there can afford them. they're WAY overpriced

the one thing is that while BR is super overpriced for what you get (in terms of the city and its opportunities/amenities), at least the shithole parts are pretty clearly marked

The only people that hate br are the people who couldn’t even find a job there and had to move to Texas. If you can’t enjoy a mid sized classical cultured southern city like Baton Rouge the problem is you, not the city

True shithole cities don’t get a question asking if they are or not.

Naw it's a great place to live if you like:

Trash
Crime
Flooding streets every sizable rainfall
Traffic
Horrible Roads
Mayor and Administration who only cater to one demographic
and
High sales taxes

I'm happy to call it home...

Without LSU, BR is glorified Jackson Mississippi

ETA: And its vicinity to NOLA
