Dyed hair and piercings isn’t very weird. I’m in my low 30’s, and I am one of the few people I know without a tattoo or piercings. I don’t know any woman under 25 who doesn’t have tattoos.

When she was 3 or 4, we got on to her about cleaning her room. We told her that if she didn't pick her toys up, we were going to donate them to needy kids. She looked at us, went to the kitchen, and came back with trash bags for the toys. We packed them up and gave them away. What kind of parenting wizardry overcomes that? And yes, she has an obnoxious amount of tattoos and piercings, but at least she's maintaining a job and a boyfriend. Two things I never thought possible tbh.

Sounds like a winner

Your kid called your bluff like a champ.

Sounds like she grew up into the kind of woman that I often end up dating.

Not at all my man. I could care less what the miserable folks here on tRant think.

I do think it's a shame to immediately label a kid "bad" because of how they dress, as was noted several times in this thread.

My kid is a straight A student with a scholly to a prestigious art school. Her mom and I are very proud of her accomplishments.

Looks like we have some overly controlling fricks on this board. Sorry if you identify as one of them bro.

For me, I sleep well knowing I have raised my kids well and they are growing into fine adults. I can tell just based on their decision making. They've earned the right to be their own person.

Y'all need to lighten up. I'm starting to feel bad for your kids.

Too many people care about the appearance and virtue signaling, the trappings of being a good and successful person because actually evaluating whether one has a strong moral compass, good values, work ethic, kindness rather than passive niceness, makes good decisions, etc is difficult and time consuming. At the same time, the reality is that other people will judge based on appearances which carry their own consequences. Those consequences greatly differ based on the observer. I think it’s important to be aware and considerate of how others may perceive you based on your attire, but at the same time, recognize the right to be your own person and that while appearances may influence first impressions, they do not define your personality. First impressions are important, but they are not everything. What is much more important is being a good person.

My friends who majored in graphic design are all doing quite well for themselves now, better than most of the ones who got business degrees.

Co-worker of mine’s daughter acted weird and had purple hair around jr high, HS age. Now she’s early 20s, works with animals but posts conservative view points on FB and has a frick Biden bumper sticker, hair is now long and black, so I don’t know

Eta: FWIW I don’t think anything of purple hair or tattoos. Most I know like that are cool, now face tattoos is different and overboard imo. I’m not a judgmental guy tbh, I make way too many mistakes or have in the past to be judgmental.

Bunch of OT badasses here will tell you stupid shite.

Kids can be weird regardless of parenting.

All these geniuses that have an issue with kids and piercings etc (not my thing) probably have kids with teenage pregnancies, DUIs, arrests, are bullies, drive Carolina squat trucks, etc… but at least no purple hair!
