Yes I do
All the time non stop
I will even talk to myself out loud
My best friend is very intelligent and this came up in conversation and he was confused about the question. “A what? An inner monologue? No. What is that.”
His fiance was absolutely floored.
EDIT:
Also there is “aphantasia” where people can’t imagine objects in their head.
Imagine having aphantasia and no inner monologue.

I’m more of an abstract and images guy but allow myself an episodic inner dialogue when bored.
Always been known as the heavy thinker and leader, IQ testing places me right at 155 consistently.

so I find it interesting that so many walk around with no inner dialogue happening.
I don't believe that people do not have an inner dialogue. That is something that came out of some survey and I think people were confused and describing it using different terminologies.
There is no way for a human to function without inner dialogue, which is just "thinking"

also have a song in my head every second of every day, which I have been told is not necessarily normal,
Happens to me most days. Chalked it up to being in a few bands when younger.

I don’t go one minute without some song in my head. Do people just walk around with silence in their heads and not a 24-hr radio station?

Until this moment I didn’t realize there were people who don’t have an inner dialogue going on almost constantly.
I was unaware until one morning Patrice O'Neal was on Opie & Anthony talking about how blacks do not have an inner dialogue. Shocking.

People who have internal dialogues are on a higher plane of existence and are able to communicate with their spirit separately from their physical being.
Everyone is capable of it, but many people ignore it because they don’t like to hear what they are being told.
In today’s world, it is referred to as having a conscience
I agree and if you can make yourself listen to it and act on it I have no doubt your life will improve. Mine stays pissed at me because I rarely do that.

I’m still at a loss as to what an internal dialogue is if not simply your thoughts. Feels like the percentage who say they don’t believe they don’t because there aren’t literally two voices talking in their heads.
I think and analyze situations/surroundings and make decisions/weigh options in English words in my mind. Does that mean I have an internal dialogue?
Or are there people who think in pictures?

If I am trying to do something, it's a dialogue.
If I'm chilling or just thinking, no. It's imagery of whatever I am thinking of.
Thinking about dinner? See myself cooking dinner later. That sort of thing.

I responded and then saw this, but yeah. Unless I'm actively engaged in doing a task that needs a lot of thought, my mind is just images of whatever I'm thinking of.

My brain tends to daydream rather than have an inner dialogue, except to tell myself "that was stupid", or "You're an idiot".

Yeah I have a pretty sarcastic inner dialogue most of the time

My inner dialogue sounds like hunter biden on the weekends
Posted on 8/1/25 at 4:28 pm to stout
Yes. Mostly it’s “FU… look at this a-hole… F me… fricking moron… stop blocking the aisle you stupid bitch… look at this fool…ect”

I do. A guy I work with has animated, out loud conversations with himself. I hear him talking to somebody and when I go in, he;'s the only one there.

This
This is some dumb social media trope that started recently. If you read into it, it's not what it appears. There aren't people out there with compete blankness in their mind.
I mean, maybe there are some rare cases of that, but it's not a large % of the population like this suggests.
