Mine is pretty organized. Extra keys, pens/pencils some nail clippers and post-its.

when I replaced all out kitchen cabinets I cleaned out the junk drawer(s). I felt like Indiana Jones on an excavation

No. Had one growing up and it was useless. Anything you would throw in a junk drawer should either be placed somewhere more intentional or thrown away.

Yes. Also have 2 extra bedrooms upstairs that have miscellaneous crap in them.

Multiple junk drawers and also a junk garage. In it I currently have a double pedestal dining table and eight chairs. a bed and two large bedroom dressers, bookcases, an office desk and chairs, unboxed printers, file cabinets, a large photo printer, golf clubs and other sports gear, tool box, about 50 boxes of miscellaneous junk, Christmas tree, lights and ornaments, along with the usual washer, dryer, bicycles, and automobile. Anyone need a nice dining table and chairs? Great Christmas gift for wifey?

Yes, extra keys on the front left, Change and nuts and bolts on the front right. EDC handgun and knife center. Extra pens, assorted crapola strewn elsewhere.

I spent a lot of time trying to organize my shop stuff. I now have 1 junk drawer after getting rid of decades-old "I may need this sometime", 'll figure out where it goes later", "this is miscellaneous", "it's fixable" stuff.
