She's funny when she sticks to her awkward shtick, but she doesn't have much comedic range.

She’s funny doing skits and impersonations. I don’t know of any funny female stand up comics.
Lots of funny actors aren’t good at stand up. It’s a different skill.

She’s a “star” like Dana, Ferrell, Sandler, etc. That is, even when she’s doing an impression, it’s mostly a caricatured version of herself she’s playing. It’s a talent few possess, and it goes a long way. It’s like winking at the audience through the fourth wall without ruining the sketch. Gilda, Chevy, Amy....
Contrast that with Dan Aykroyd, Phil Hartman and Darrell Hammond, three notables whom we hardly knew as people because they so deeply assumed each character like mad scientists and with pin-point accuracy. (We’ve since gotten to know Danny over the years, and it turns out he’s on the spectrum. Of course.)
Then there’s guys like Farley, Eddie, and Belushi, each of whom was sort of both, and unsurprisingly, those three all get #1 votes from the AP, so to speak.
