What would you expect to get in New Haven if you ordered a plain pie? I know you have been because you rated Sally's on the Food Board.

ETA I love riding ferries. BTW did you ever get to ride the Hover Ferry from Dover to Boulogne? Shame the Chunnel killed them.

I do recommend that whenever you have the opportunity to take a ferry, you do so.

I recently took the ferry from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island for the first time, en route back from the beach on Labor Day weekend. I will be doing that every time from now on. It is infinitely more pleasant than the dreadful drive through Mobile.

Absolutely love the PNW ferries, both Washington and BC. Deception pass is stunning. Great post.

How many of you (old) folks remember riding on the ferries that crossed to Port Allen?

The old Preacher would baptize you in the river while you waited to board.

Yes. My favorite ones are on the Amalfi Coast.

Vancouver to Victoria Island is another favorite.

I have taken the one from Dover to Calais but these days I would rather take the Eurostar.

Friend,

I do not know. Every time I have been to Sally's it has been with Uncle, who went to law school at Yale. He ordered for us and ordered "with mootz." I would assume if you ordered a plain pie there, you would get tomato sauce and perhaps a dusting of real grated Parm, but not the mootz most have come to expect with a cheese pie.

The Dover Ferry was before my time. I have taken the Chunnel on three round trips. It is quite the boring adventure. We learned about it in a science or geography class and watched a show on PBS about it being built. What a letdown it was the first time riding through a dark tunnel for a half hour or however long it was.

brehan davey, any way you can avoid spending time in Mobile, AL is a good way. I too try to go that route as often as family allows it.

SuperSaint, the 2023 Radkos are splendid! Several stores I have visited in Leavenworth and New Orleans already have them on display. If you bring the catalog, and perhaps some photographs of your collection, everyone at the part will be edified. Have you seen Radko's new venture, Heartfully Yours? Copyright laws prevent him from using his own name, but those in the know cannot mistake his touch.

TigerRyno, you are a masterpiece.

realturffan, Canada, now there is an idea. I have never crossed into that land, but now you have my attention. We should gather an OT group to visit.

wasteland, the flowers in person were stunning. The maroon sunflower had my attention for no less than ten minutes. God is good to us.

texn, what a heart warming memory. What a lovely man your grandfather sounds like.

gumbo2176, the New Orleans ferries were a hidden treasure in New Orleans and the treasure shrinks as they discontinue routes. Add another notch in the things I do not like about cars.

RedPop4, would it not be wonderful to have an OT field trip aboard the ferries of the New Orleans Metro? Maybe Rummey or Chicken will set one up for us.

Hillabee, thank you, friend.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

TulaneLSU,

I seem to recall that on your recent expedition to PNW that Uncle attempted to arrange a surprise for you. It was obvious that you were extremely excited about whatever that possibility may have been.

I missed further references, so can you possibly share how that turned out?

There are actually several species of animals that are absent from there that are or have been prevalent in most similar ecosystems in the PNW.

Friend,

You are gifted with a fine memory. I am glad you asked. Uncle came through in a big way. More to come on that, perhaps on the Arts Board. Watch that space.

Jim, how lovely it is to hike in a place with no poisonous snakes. Even better is when there are no grizzly bears present. The push from the NPS to reintroduce grizzlies to the North Cascades is, in my view, foolish and we will be poorer for it. The only reason Glacier and the Grand Te*** are not my favorite hiking parks is the presence, maybe even overpopulation, of those man eaters.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

At Sally's yes, at many of the old school NH joints you would get Pecorino Romano grated on the sauce: ovine vs. bovine.

A google search pulled them up. I rode across the river many times on them. The engine room had large openings on either side and you could see the large connecting rods supplying the power to the flywheels.
I always wanted to go up to the wheelhouse but never had the chance. Don’t know if they would have welcomed kids up there anyway.
ETA: the double stack ferry was the Louisiana and the single was the Baton Rouge.
