How much would you say as a percentage of your time and money do you personally donate to charity?

Google them. I helped raise $10K for them, then found out their management blows a ton of dough on themselves.

I hear there are similar organizations that do good work with much less wasteful spending.

Yes, and I donate through Amazon's smile website. Same Amazon stuff but they donate to your charity based on how much you spend

Was coming to post the same. Everyone should go to smile.amazon.com as the prices are the same to you but pick any charity you like and they donate to them. I think St Jude is one of the best ones out there as the $$ actually goes to these kids.

Yes. St. Jude uses the money to really and truly help the unfortunate kids. Really sad that Susan G Komen gets all the popularity and they spend most of their money on marketing pink gimmicks.

Yes. I'm from Minden. Every year for the past few years, Minden has given more to St. Jude's (per capita) than any other city in the world. Had our annual St. Jude's emphasis last weekend and raised almost $1.5 million. For a small town with about 14,000 people, that's unreal. Had a number of Minden kids treated at St. Jude's over the years

Yes

I always am sure to convey that all of my charitable donations go to children's causes when being hit up to donate to animal causes. Closes out that conversation pretty quickly.

I've gotten to where I hate so much of what I read about charities. Now days I just donate directly to families who are suffering

The Food Bank and St. Jude are the two best if you want to help kids who are at their lowest: Terminal illness and hunger. I look at my kids (1.5 and almost 3) and I can't imagine them being unhappy, let alone going hungry or having cancer.

We donate a box of food every few weeks, give money and give time at the food bank as much as possible. Donate money to St Jude. Not much, but it is what we can afford.
