yep im with you on that. Nice thing about sleeping by water is, well theres water! But it definitely makes the tent damp. Sometimes you just gotta sleep where your head falls.
I really dont mind the condensation all that much except when my feet touch the tent wall and it soaks through my quilt. Thats a major pain in the arse. Or when you accidentally bump the tent and get rained on. And thats just gross

The stream ruined any chance your fan had for success. Still a really cool idea that would probably work well in higher altitudes with less humidity. Most of my backpacking is done in the WNC/ETN area so I can’t avoid the moisture. Sometimes the simplest of solutions is the best and a frost bib I hang around my neck really made a difference for me.

Ive never done any backpacking in that area but its been on my list for years. I had a 30 mile trip planned in November 2016 but hurricane Matthew nixed it. I need to get back on that!
The company I work for is based out of Kingsport, TN. Maybe one day I can piggyback a trip with a work trip.

Set up the tent and I checked out the bathroom/showers. Freakin military style toilets. So I figured I would go in early to take a dump. I went in at 4AM.. no one in their and as soon as I started to pinch a horde of people came in to the area.

I typically car camp with the family 5-6 times a year and do a backcountry trip once a year. I enjoy it and I like my kids to have outdoor experience. It’s a pain being in New Orleans as everywhere good to camp is minimum 8-9 hours away, but we make do.

Yeah man we live in the worst place if you find that backpacking/camping is your hobby. That’s really cool to let your kids experience that. My parents did that for me and I’m so glad. I hope I can pass it on to my daughter. I’d love to thru hike one of the long trails with her when she graduates high school.
I guess on the bright side, it’s cool enough to camp in your backyard in south LA right now. Not the same scenery but the experience is all kids enjoy.

Same. Only time it bothers me is when I wake up and my little porch thing where I keep my boots and some other stuff is soaked or frozen solid. Cant open it without it pissing all over my stuff. I guess I should just start keeping that stuff under a tarp completely outside the tent.
I've camped before but this year is my first year backpacking with no experience at all, so I'm learning everything the hard way. It's a whole different ballgame when you have to tote all your shite on your back

I carry an extra water bottle just to pee in so I don’t have to get out of the tent in the middle of the night

Used to camp a lot on vacations with my family growing up. In fact, tent camping WAS our lodging on vacations, we never stayed in hotels or motels. We had all five of us in a big 1970s Sears Hilary cabin tent - this was the exact model we had:
Ex-stepfather was a cheap bastard, we'd be at some KOA or state park campground outside places like Birmingham, Houston, Nashville, or in Gulf Shores in the hot-as-hell middle of summer; set up in drive-up spot with a picnic table and a bathroom/shower building nearby, surrounded by tons of RVs and pop-ups and some other tent campers. The worst of all worlds.
When I grew up and had kids of my own I started taking them tent camping in a much more primitive style-- via canoe on Wolf River, Red Creek, etc. or out on the Gulf Coast barrier islands once I got a boat.
I love just about everything about camping: the escape/getting away, nature, the views/sunsets, cooking over a campfire, then drinking wine and having a cigar beside that fire at night.
Only thing I don't like is the sleeping aspect. I usually get to sleep okay, but sunlight and bird noises wake me up far too early.

shite this is a high dollar super lightweight mountain climbing rig. I thought I wouldnt have to worry about shite like this.
Both of my expensive tents end up with condensation on the inner wall certain times of the year.
I just deal with it.

Pro stuff right there.
I unzip just enough and go.
You learn that quickly when it's blowing 40 out and you're snow camping.
