If so, how often?

I've never been able to maintain a tooth-brushing regimen for any dog I've owned and never had them professional cleaned (never seemed to cause any issues).

I have a new puppy now, though, and am considering brushing his teeth consistently once his milk teeth fall out.

A picture of some rocks for your trouble.

My brother in law is a dentist and he brushes his dog’s teeth. I don’t rememeber if it is weekly or monthly. Regardless, he said if you start when they’re a puppy Eventually this just sit there and let you do it.

I do. Weekly.

I use a fluoride additive and add it to their water daily. It works.

In between, I give them bully sticks as well.
