Do you believe there is a special someone for everyone?

Do you think that there is a special someone that each person was meant to be with and life is about finding that person?
My fiance and I were watching TV the other night and some woman on a show was talking about how hard it is to find the person you're meant to be with. I told her that idea doesn't make sense if you really think about it.
I told her that I believe that an almost infinite number of pairings could take place with varying degrees of happiness. And your best bet in life is to find someone and be in a relationship where both parties are happy. That doesn't mean that person is the one, because you could find someone else that makes you just as happy but that person might not be easy to find or may be taken.
She sort of agreed but didn't really comment when I said that. But I just think the idea of the one is ridiculous from a probabilities standpoint. I think an argument could be made that there is one person out there that would make you the happiest, but what are the odds that you ever meet that person, or are even on the same continent as that person? We're happy together and have a great relationship, but I'm not going to base my feelings on a Disney-fied idea that that the universe spit us out for the sole purpose of being together. I'm just glad that we were able to meet and form a relationship.

You found someone to marry you?

I thought you got whacked for starting shitty threads yesterday?

No. Probably a lot of people will be festooned with a constantly nagging, rapidly expanding wife as their special someone.

There are varying degrees of "settling" happening all around you.
Also, we're animals so you tell me.

The odds of "the one" being geographically convenient for you are pretty bad.
Find someone you are compatible with and work to make it work.
Or don't, I don't really care what you do.

Not my uncle, he beats the shite out of women. I sure hope the universe didn't pick out some poor broad to be his soulmate.

Some people have three special people and marry all three of them and you can't even get one

Please go sleep with your best friends wife so he can file for divorce...

No. I'm a pessimist by nature so I always expect the worst to happen. Makes life easier when you don't have expectations

I think there are people out there that a person is very compatible with and would live happily ever after with.
But I don't believe in the idea of a "soul mate" where there is someone you're "meant to be with".

Nope... it's all about compatibility and timing. There's a lot of people for everyone.
