Come on man. That's the money gospel and EVERY ONE of those "churches" is run by crooks.

Just a crook with Rev. Or Pr. In front of their name.

Must be what happened to all those kids in Africa dying of aids and Ebola.

Guess the big guy didn't feel that some beans and a goat leg were enough protection money.

Just read the thread.

And what of those of us that believed once and never saw anything? Do you even comprehend how incredibly insulting it is to tell that to former theists that left precisely because they never felt what you describe? To be in church and feel alone? Left out? Out of touch entirely with what was going on around you?

What do you say to that? We did not know what to listen to? We really were hearing but didn't know it? Didn't give enough...gave too much? Not long enough? Too long?

I was a Catholic for over 2 decades, and all I ever heard was silence.

At some point you'll have to acknowledge that nearly ALL current atheists are former people of faith. We felt just as deeply as you do...

Confirmation bias is a difficult thing to control. It's why we don't rely solely on things like first hand testimony and eye witnesses.

You see that as god's intervention in your life, and ignore all the other TERRIBLE things that were happening while he was helping you land that sweet gig. You seem like a nice enough guy, but that kind of faith is actually repugnant.

My honest answer is something that would offend many.

Let me suggest a non catholic church. Try a Christian church.

Not offensive, just hollow and typical.

And what of those who went to the correct type of church? I'm sure someone here will admit to having been the "right" type of Christian and STILL felt nothing.

What then?

Why can't a person have spirituality without religion?

Do we as humans have to have an intermediary to connect to God?
