We usually open ours together separately before we head to other's houses.

We asked each other for our big gifts and we each got each other a couple little surprises, but I don't see anything wrong with opening in front of parents. No kids yet though, like OP.
I can also say if I was one of our parents I would be more concerned with the number of presents the couple gets for each other, not for the parents. I'm sure the inlaws would be just as happy seeing how much y'all want to give to each other and whatever you get them doesn't really matter that much in comparison
However if you got her any kinky stuff, leave that at home OP

I would imagine 99% of you guys qualify as textbook white trash.
Threads like this confirm my suspicions.

My immediate family would always open presents together and then travel to where we are posting up for Christmas where we'd share our nice to see you gifts with non-immediate family. Last year we included our grandmother into the immediate family thing and she fricking hated it and kept wandering off and my dad got pissed with her. This year, my sister and I are trying to convince my dad we should just open presents when we return.
As for SO, I ain't married and I ain't introducing anyone to my family unless I was planning on it. They can go to their own family for Christmas.

My inlaws used to hawk over her to see what I gave her. There was such a judgmental vibe. When we were not there for Christmas, they would call her and say, "Merry Christmas, what did Hangit get you?"
This same call was repeated by her mom, her dad, two brothers and a sister. We now live 3,000 miles from them so those issues have slacked off.

We need a break from both our extended families. Unfortunately both of our parents retired where I currently work.

They're your gifts, you get to open them wherever the f**k yo want.

We open our gifts privately.

We don't get each other gifts anymore. We figure we get what we want all year so it's all about the kids. I hate opening gifts in front of people. Goes back to when I was a kid and my family would prank each other on Christmas.

We don't always buy gifts but when we do we open them at home with our three children ... Never at the in laws.

That's pitiful. They're "grading" your gifts??
