You claimed to know. That you claim to know because of faith is irrelevant.

Your problem is you have a fundamental lack of understanding of what faith is. You think faith is something that just happens on it’s own. But what you fail to understand is that faith (just like love) is a conscious action. You choose to have faith in something or not.
I know exactly what faith is. I spent over 25 years of my life buying into the nonsense that religion sells.

I actually used that same argument once. Dammit I'm getting roped into this debate. I know how this is going to play out though. Something about the fact that "I am a jealous God" is from the old testament, while the other stuff is new testament, and they involve different covenants or something. I don't know. I don't care. I'm agnostic, and I don't care about debating God.

This statemtn only reenfoces your misunderstanding of what faith is.

There’s your problem. You’re hung up on religion when you should have been focused on a personal relationship with God. Religion is like a whitewashed tomb. It looks shiny and clean on the outside. But on the inside it’s dead.
ETA: this has been fun but I’ve got to get to work if I’m goinv to get out of here on time.

Me, too. I wish there was a way to restrict theists from discussions about science. They should start their own threads. I'm positive they wouldn't be invaded with trolls about science.
I was hoping this thread would be about the Big Bang and the origin of the Universe. Dammit.

Well, at least one theist is gone. A couple more and we can get down to the business of discussing science.

they seem to be satisfied with, "God did it," and insist that the rest of us be as content with that explanation
Can you name one person in this thread who said that?

True, that just exacerbates the problem of a perfect being making such a huge change. I didn't know perfection needed or even could change.

Well, I don't think theists should be restricted from discussing science on these boards or anywhere. I completely agree with Breesus that you can be a theist and not reject science. But I don't think we need to bring up "God vs. science" in a discussion about science. They are two completely separate things that lead us to debates like this which detract from the original topic. And that's fine too. A good discussion is always fun. It's just that I think we might be getting a little too far into trying to disprove each other.
I don't know. Let's just get back to the Big Bang. frick.

What do you do when divine revelation conflicts with science?

Incorrect. Faith is irrelevant to what I replied to.
This...
quote:
Proof of God? You see God in His creation. If you don’t see Him it’s because you reject and choose to not see him.
...is bullshite. You claim to know because you "see" him. If we don't know what you know, it's simply because we "reject and choose to not see him."
Your attempt to later try to pass this off simply as your "faith" isn't important.

I don't have a problem. You are the one with all of your work ahead of you, and you're failing.

I honestly don't know and don't care.

The problem is that invading theists want to hijack science threads and make it science vs. religion. There is no debate involved. It always devolves into a spitting match between a few individuals. That makes it hard for discussions about the OP difficult to maintain.

I just went back to read through the early posts again. It looks like RockyMtnTigerWDE seemed to have made the first comment, and nola000 responded by basically calling him unintelligent. I don't want to get into a whole argument about who started what. But I do want to point out the that neither of those people have continued to comment in this thread. Meanwhile, we're all left derailing it.
But maybe I need to do my part as far as getting things back on track. So does anyone know any theories about what's on the "other side" of the big bang? I've never heard anything about this before and find it to be pretty interesting.

What? Then how do you think it was formed?
You originally wrote this:

in that infinite explosion the earth was formed
No, the Earth was not formed during the Big Bang (which isn't an explosion btw, but that's another topic). The Earth was formed by a series of processes that took many billions of years after the BB happened.

You specifically mentioned the Christian God. That implies you think you understand something about this supposed being.

The guy below, independent/self taught physicist, argues that the universe is concurrently infinitely expanding into the infinitely large and into infinitely small (hence the similar observations at very small and very large scale).
Humans/consciousness are the bridge interpreting the two.
As above, so below...
His recent work is chronicled in the doc below (bottom):
YouTube -long vid, deep stuff

Not at all. You should question it, and thereby learn about it. This is why I suggested taking some courses in Physics and Astronomy.
