Yeah, the Prowler was all style and no substance. Compared to other cars in it's price range at the time, it was cheaply made and slow. You paid for the looks. You could have bought an E36 M3 for the same amount and had a vastly mechanically superior car.

I saw one of these Sunday when I was driving home from North Louisiana.

The gold color was my favorite. My neighbor painted a 69' Chevy Truck Plymouth Prowler Gold, it turned out really nice.

The SSR is one of the more head scratching designs I’ve ever seen. Is it based off of some 50s or 60s era vehicle? Looks like a gay El Camino or something.

I wonder why they only put V 6s in those. They might have been led to manage a small v8.

It was a cruiser and 100% the intent of the car. It was for the guy who wanted a classic hotrod with modern convinces with a warranty and dealer support. The customer buying a Prowler is not cross shopping a M3.... completely different customer bases.

It woould have been a bigger hit if f they offered a V8 and a manual option.

Many have swapped engines and transmissions.

The Howler had the 8 and manual. It had more of a truck bed with a cover than the hatch back like the Prowler. If I remember right, they used a 4.7 because the 5.2 and 5.9 were too wide.

I'm trying to get into a much safer car. Was thinking about a Pinto. Should be pretty cheap.

Could have been a really cool hotrod, but they turned it into an underpowered joke.

I always thought it was such a shame they were only ever offered with a V6 and automatic, they'd have been much cooler with a V8/manual option or even the Viper V10 wedged in.

This. Not only was it kind of slow but the shelf life of a chrysler v6/auto power train isn't that long. Even if the Viper engine/trans wasn't in the cards, just a 318 and 5-speed manual from a work truck ram would've been better

Almost everytime I see one, which is rarely nowadays, it's either purple or yellow. Looks good in candy red - probably a custom paint job.

IIRC, they only came kn purple for the first few years of production. Then yellow for a year, then black, etc. They also only had one per dealership, per year.

They were cool AF.
