The only new money folks in River Oaks are the ones that live behind the MAC and not many are trashy. There is a ton of development up towards Sterlington but just from the looks of those houses, I can't say that there is a trashy factor there either.

places where those very kids used to go mudriding and duck hunting are now grown up and building houses there and then complain that it flooded. Shake my damn head

The area between Swartz and Fairbanks around the old swayback hunting club is being developed fairly rapidly too. Almost all the woods are gone.

I've been watching that. Looks like a couple trailers have popped up on some of it. Swartz gonna Swartz.

That could generally be said for all of River Oaks, not just where we used to mud ride back in the day. The only good duck hunting was actually off Deborah behind the levee and it's still a swamp back there. Heaven forbid anybody try to develop that.

Instant classic!
This one has been around for years. I wish we had the whole set of pics. They were all instant classics!

It flooded because we had once in a lifetime rainfall. And there was only a couple of the homes in that particular subdivision that flooded.

Nah. Most new money has made its way towards Frenchmen's bend.

Wish I knew what that guy's shirt said? Rehab is for Quitters, maybe? Looks like everyone is so happy there. $100 says later that night there was some hollering, screaming, and the Rehab guy got arrested for domestic violence while the fat guy on the left was talking to the cops shirtless in the front yard.

How do you know they're from Bawcomville?

Once in a dog's lifetime you mean? That floods every few years.

The old part of River Oaks has flooded quite a bit in the last few decades but some of the newer houses are built smack dab in part of Chauvin Swamp. Look at an old topo map and the houses are in the swamp.
When you have cypress and willow oaks and overcup oaks growing in your yard, you are in an area that inundates frequently.
There are houses right in the areas where people would always mud ride

I can just remember ... waking up to a horrible smell as we drove through. I had never heard that before then
If you can hear an odor, that's damned strong.
Then again, some folks say they can taste colors when they trip on acid.

I think the pump station at Chauvin gave people a false sense of security. Before that the flood line was often at Herbert Cole and Chauvin Racquet Club (now the MAC for you youngsters)
