Seems like. I had a nice guy dealer I was working with who straight up told me he had no incentive to negotiate with me off the online price if I was paying cash. He basically indicated he could probably push through a minimal reduction like you're talking about to get it done if I was going to come close to the published price, but nothing like I was looking for.
He was helpful and told me this knowing he wasn't making a sale, so I assume it was valid info.

I have a friend that has a dealers license and I go to auctions with him from time to time. I went just last week actually and I will tell you that trucks absolutely have a nice markup despite what people here are saying. Cars, SUVs, etc not so much but trucks are in demand which means profit. Old POS trucks are still selling well.
A nice Dodge dually went for $17K at auction last week and that dealer has that truck listed at $23,995 this week. I have some more wrote down somewhere because I was curious on their markup but I remember that one because my friend bid on it.

You would think the wholesale market would have caught up with the retail on trucks. I highly doubt he sells it for a 7k profit.

I doubt it too but even if he comes off $3K, which is still a good deal for someone, he is making more than the 10% people are throwing around.
There were several other deals I thought were very fair for trucks considering the demand for them.

I found my last two cars online. They were listed for about $2000 less online than on the sticker so I just went with that.

Wholesale is the way to go no doubt.
It can be a little difficult to get in there though even if you know someone with a lot.

It doesn't hurt to ask, but they might not take you seriously now. There is probably a few dollars there.

that gap gets closed even more when you may be looking at 3% rate on used and possibly a 0% or close to it on new.
