Monopolies have always been good for the individuals (and companies) at the top.
Gould, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, and Morgan understood it well.

How do you define a monopoly?
I hear people complain about monopolies all of the time, and they rarely can name a single one.

Citizens United. Globalization. Technology. Modern Monetary Theory. Corporate welfare. Generalized apathy. Uniparty corruption.
I mean, take your pick of one, some, or all. The beast must be fed.

Don't worry, Trump is going to drain the swamp any day now.

Monopolies these days (more like oligopolies) are created via merger, more so than market participants dropping out or via organic growth.
Mergers are being driven by private equity money in many industries that are in a consolidation phase.
Private equity is offering money to sellers that other potential buyers can’t match.
In the last 2 years, I’ve had 4 business clients sell out to roll ups. All 4 at one point had plans to sell to their kids or to key employees. But the money was waaaaay too good to pass up.
