Had math teachers use them to work out problems and be able to show them and erase the work fairl easy. It always worked well that way and everyone got the subject matter easily

I hope they still have the rolling carts with the tube TVs and VCRs.

Still use them in Germany... The school my wife (no pics) works in Munich still has them and they are used.

You never realize how dusty a room is until you flip on one of those things

When I taught school I used them, the replacement bulb price went sky high right after we started using the computer projector device. Overhead project bulb is its' Achilles heel.

I know that slide projectors are still used in scientific and medical research due to its ability to display as much as 87 megapixel imaging, whereas most video projectors are capable of only 2 megapixels or if 4K, 8 megapixels. Also, 35mm film slides are capable of DICOM rated for medical imaging and nearly all projectors are not. When studying whether that tissue sample from that cyst is benign or cancerous, you really want your medical professional using DICOM displays.

I had a few older professors in business school a couple of years ago still use these

The rooms were equipped with the modern equivalent, but they wanted no part of it

I still use mine occasionally. I use my Smartboard much more, but I have some primary source material on transparencies that is really good. The statement about the bulbs becoming very expensive is false.

Did they not realize they could simply draw on the glass itself and just wipe it clean?

Most of my teachers got smart and wrote notes on the clear sheets in sharpie..... probably used those things for years without having to write new notes

Oh, man, if you were the kid that got sent to the office to get a stack of those that the secretary just finished running off when they were still cool because the last of the fluid was evaporating off of them and you could get a big sniff of them walking back to class, that was the best.

In hindsight, it was also a pretty good way to know if you were going to like to party later in life.
