I got a 2014 Overland. Just rolled 60k. Had one freak problem where the GPS went haywire and had me in Texas even though I was in Atlanta. They replaced the unit under warranty. Also had a coolant leak about 5k miles ago also replaced under warranty. Forget what the root cause was there.

Nothing major though. Love it. Had an Audi prior and the features on the GC were better than Audi had to offer.

My sister's Patriot is a POS. My mechanic hates it.

I'll add, the automatic braking system encourages texting behind the wheel because it is virtually impossible to rear-end anybody

This thread makes me sad. I had a 1997 Cherokee based on the old AMC engines that was virtually indestructable. It's a shame to see what's happened to the Jeep brand.

All Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler products fall apart as the warranty is expiring. It's their business model.

My parents had a '95 GC that ran great for about 150k miles. They only got rid of it because my older sister drove it into a concrete pole trying to exit a drive thru in Tuscaloosa. Then they had a 2000 GC that I ended up driving in 2004. I kept it until 2006 and traded it in with just shy of 100k miles. No mechanical issues the entire 7 years we had it. I bought a 2005 GC on Labor Day weekend in 2006 and drove it until summer 2012. 120k on the odometer and no mechanical issues. Just routine maintenance and the occasional blower motor resistor replacement. I've had my 2004 Wrangler since then and no mechanical issues.

my 06 wrangler hasn't had a warranty for a very long time and the only part to fail was a catalytic converter. and it was an everyday driver for a long time.

grand Cherokee

I had one in the 90s. Bought the warranty for 85k miles. Used it for transmission problems (2x), oil pump, water pump, catalytic converter, window motor, and other things but I got rid of that damn thing before the warranty went out!

There is literally not a single brand out there that the above isn't applied to in one way or another.

So you've heard people say "if they are made by Toyota, then they are shite."

I'm getting a new Jeep Cherokee, simply b/c it's the biggest vehicle i had to choose from for my work vehicle. Tired of driving that piece of shite Ford Fusion. I have little faith that i won't have problems with my new jeep over the next 3 years.

Wife had a 94 Cherokee (xj), and ran it up to 150000 miles with only water pump replacement at 140000. Traded it in on 99 Grand Cherokee that we put 160000 miles on with only a couple bad sets of brake rotors. Once that was figured out at 20000 miles we were good the rest of the way.

Fast forward a few years and me and the wife see a 2000 XJ for sale locally, and decide to buy it as first car for my daughter who will be driving in a year. Paid $2200 for it with only 110000 miles.only a couple of cosmetic issues that I've taken care of.

Common denominator among all of these. 4.0 liter straight 6 with 4 speed automatic transmission. Bulletproof engine and transmission. Easy to do maintenance and a boatload of aftermarket goodies for any preference

My SO has a brand new Cherokee Trailhawk that's been in the shop 4 times within 6 months already, all major transmission problems. Something with the programming and ECU are failing at random and they can't recreate the issue at the Jeep dealers so they don't know how to fix it. This is a problem that's specific to the Trailhawk version of the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and it's apparently extremely common, so I'd stay away from those models at all cost.

The factory battery also failed and blew up internally, which was a 5th visit to the shop. She's owned it just over 6 months and it has 30k miles on it, and has had a loaner from the dealership probably 2 of those 6 months. The last time it was in the shop she demanded a different model vehicle and they claimed there was nothing they could do at this point, unless the transmission fails a couple more times and the lemon law goes into effect. This last visit they could never recreate the trans issue in the shop after having it for 2 weeks, so they ultimately gave it back to her and told her "good luck" and sent it on its way.

After this experience I would never buy a jeep vehicle again, and I definitely wouldn't do business with the local dealership (superior dodge in Conway, AR) ever again. Go buy a 4Runner or Explorer for the same money.

And my wife kept wondering why I wanted a TJ with a 5-speed over a JKU with an automatic. It wasn't just my 4 door hatred.

As stated, the 9-speed automatic has had major issues. So much so that they fired the guy who designed it a few years back, if I remember correctly.
