Everyone knows you're a poor service industry person but you could downplay it a little.
Actually I don't work in the service industry but have went back several times over the years and worked p/t for extra coin. Glad to know working is frowned upon on the OT.
But you're right on the poor part, for real

Do restaurants expect tips on to go orders?
Yes. To go servers only make 2.13 per hour and minimum wage if tips are lacking.
They do a lot of work putting orders together. Can't tell you how many times they get stiffed on even the most complex orders. Doctors offices/reps are consistently awful with to-go food and hardly ever tip.
The standard rate has been 10% for every restaurant I've worked at.
Honestly the majority of time they are treated like shite by people and stiffed just because they assume their job doesn't require tipping. The lowes cashier comparison below is completely wrong.
- I've worked in restaurants for 10 years, franchises and upscale restaurants.

I tip on to-go orders ... With the exception of refilling my drink (granted that is a large exception), they are doing exactly the same thing as a table waiter...greeting me, preparing my meal and bringing it to me and making sure everything is right, checking me out. And actually they have an extra step table waiter doesn't... Getting everything bagged up.
Most of the places I pick up from doesn't have a "stand-alone" cashier... The person putting together your to-go order is a waiter or bartender, or at least appears to be to me.
They're definitely not doing nothing... That bag of a meal doesn't put itself together

To go servers
There is no such position as a "To go server." If there is a person whose specific job it is to work the counter and handle to-go orders, then they should be getting paid minimum wage ($7.25) plus tips. If they are getting paid the server minimum wage ($2.13) plus tips, then management is fricking them over. And I have no doubt that this is happening. It's just too bad that young workers don't know they are getting fricked over.

Who does the tip go to if it's some girl and all she does it work a register?
Goes to the girl running the register. I can remember when I was a server at a restaurant years ago. The way they had their to-go counter set up was that servers rotated and took turns running the counter. You still only got your standard $2.13/hr that shift. So it sucked when it was your turn to work to go cause of all the cheap assholes who think you don't tip to go orders.
Granted....I never expected normal tips that night like I would if I had actual tables, but still....it was frustrating bringing people their orders out over and over....and not even getting a dollar tip in thanks. And these are people that are asking for extra stuff as well(extra bread, extra sauces, etc).
I'm not a cheap a-hole...so I always tip when I get a to go order. Not 20%, but at least a few dollars.

You find out about it when you get the bill. Vincent's on St Charles doesn't auto-grat, only the one in Metairie

You can expect a restaurant to auto grat a table of 6 or more, but on a to-go order I've never seen such a thing. I normally don't mind leaving a few bucks, however I'd have a talk with management about this practice.

You do realize that labor cost is included in the price of to go orders, right? If they are working the counter/register, they are getting paid by the hour, like the cooks that cooked your food.
Not always true. In some places, the bartender is responsible for to-go orders, including taking the order, getting everything boxed up, and bagging it - in addition to cashing you out. They get paid the same as servers by the hour in most places - which is well below a standard hourly rate.
I always tip on any to go order, because someone had to take the time to take my order, gather my order, and bring me my order - and in many cases those individuals are paid via customer tips as opposed to an hourly rate.

bullshite. Cashiers make more than the 2.13 per hour. GTFO here with that fricking lie.
