If you pull up in one of these, the staff will already know they're getting zero.

The service warrants a tip, albeit not as much. They took your order and made sure the order was correct. Just because you did not order a drink and sit down at a table doesn't mean they did not perform their job duties. Another way to look at this, your tipping allows restaurants to not charge you what they really should charge you. Unless America wants to get away from the tipping culture, which I wish it would, people need to understand it's necessity.
I'm not tipping someone 1 cent for looking inside of a fricking bag

What do you think the server does sans the bag?

As an OT Baller and with a wife who worked in a restaurant through college I tend to tip very well both dining in and also take out too.
OP is poor.

I would say they do their job. Realistically it's impossible to answer that question as what the server does is going to depend on where I'm ordering the food from.
Look at it this way, you don't tip the Wal-Mart cashier when you buy groceries.
Contrast this to sitting down at a restaurant and your experience can vary wildly by the quality of your server. You tip not because it is obligatory. You tip because you are being waited on hand and foot and your tip increases or decreases based on the quality of service received so that you can encourage better service.

100% true. I do the exact same thing!

It's a couple bucks, so who cares. The kid bringing you your food is probably in college just doing his job.

My view is if you can't drop someone $1 when you are picking up food because you are too anal and/poor, then you should stay home and cook your own food.
A few different examples of when I def. tip $3 or so. I order from a local bar and grill by me. The bartender is taking my order, checking order, and boxing shite for me. And at one time he/she would cook the order.
I drink there 3 or 4 times a week. Homey is getting a tip, especially now that he's not the cook so I know he probably isn't making minimum wage.
If I call to order from some of the small mom and pop restaurants its a waiter who answers the phone and handles all of my shite. This person is being taken away from servicing other customers so I feel a few dollars is justified.
I guess you tight asses could make the case against tipping when you are ordering from a place that has a dedicated person who handles to go orders and is making non server wages. It's still warrants a $1 from me.
Here is another mind blower, I sometimes give the coffee person at starbucks my change.

Two different types of business that operate in different ways. America is addicted to the tipping culture where the majority of the cost of labor is passed on to the guests and paid for by your tip. A lot of times these positions are being paid minimum wages but their are certainly exceptions and they are pretty common. This person provided a very similar level of service for the time you were in the building. I just do not see how $2 is asking a whole lot. I do have a question: Do you not tip a bartender who opens a bottle of beer for you just because that is all they did?

I can't believe people don't understand the FOH business model used in mojoirty of restaurants in America. Of course I understand people not agreeing with it, but it shouldn't be something you start debating at the POS. If a person doesn't have any intention of tipping anything at these establishments. They should possibly think about another way to feed themselves that evening. And take up the fight another time.
But don't act oblivious that we are a tipping society.

Who does the tip go to if it's some girl and all she does it work a register?

Everyone knows you're a poor service industry person but you could downplay it a little.

So you went from complaining about the topic being brought up too much to writing a thesis on it. Why so angry?

Sorry dude. Just tire of the constant threads about either this or " do you tip at sonic".
Rednecks and their views on restaurants in general and tipping annoy me. LOL

He isn't wrong though. Whether you agree or disagree, that's the way it is. I'm all against getting away from tips, raising prices on the menu, and paying everyone a livable wage.

Both Vincent's and Cypress in Metairie will hit you for 15 and 20% for walking in the door and picking up your food
That's insane. Do they even tell you that on the menu or website?
Why not just build tipping into the price?

They live off of tips. If you call in a to go order and habitually don't tip, you can guarantee you have ingested some spit, frommunda cheese, or had a little bounty from the nose farm.
They do remember your non-tipping arse and will retaliate. Not may, will.
ETA: I am guessing the 5 people who downvoted me are too stupid to know, or care that others work for tips. They are taking time from their paying customers to get you your rare bacon fatburger.
They know you screw them so they prepare your food with a little wang to it. Congrats on eating the dick residue.

That kind of policy would piss me off.
I know the probably don't care to even do to go orders when busy, but that's horse shite
