I never have trouble with the employees once I get to the window, but I've recently had to sit 20 minutes behind two other cars. It seems like some people in the drive-thru drop off their prescriptions and sit there and wait for them to be filled rather than circling around; line behind them be damned.

Friend of mine was a pharmacist in Lafayette and said they would constantly have to tell people they can't hold up the drive-thru while they wait for their RX to be filled and to circle around. Apparently, my pharmacy doesn't believe in this.

Some can absolutely blow. Walgreens on Essen for example. They are understaffed and incredibly busy. They have permanently shut down the 2nd lane. You can still sit at that window for 3.5 minutes(I've timed it) without being acknowledged after the initial "be with you in a minute". But they have a little mirror thingy I can see them back in there working and shite. It's not like they're playing Words With Friends on their phones.

CVS at Perkins Rowe is busy as frick but they acknowledge you and shite.

I think this is what it boils down to for me...not getting acknowledged. I'd be perfectly fine if someone told me they were busy and it'd be a few minutes. At that point, I could leave if I was in a rush and come back at a better time. The terrible customer service really comes down to just sitting there staring at an empty window even after hitting the button.

The whole point of a drive thru is to speed up the process for people that don't have the time to come in. If there's some kind of hold up like having to get personal info, sign up for service, etc, they should have to come inside to pick up, not hold the line up defeating the whole purpose its there for. Customer service and common sense 101.

They probably don’t have time to micromanage the line. Why don’t you walk inside?

Not if you use a local pharmacy. Mine will know who I am when I pull in the parking lot and by the time I get to the window they address me as MrLarson and hand me my scripts.

No. They point of it is that people have come to expect it, so corporate puts it there. The staff would prefer you came inside.

People who don’t use independents or small chains are just asking for the shitty experience they receive. The chains don’t give nearly enough help.

Yep. It is a shitty situation that they have to look out for their license, but at the same time have to abide by company policy to move scripts through.

She told me this story about answering the phone in a certain number of rings, they weren’t getting there in time. So the store manager turns the phones all the way up to an obnoxious level so they couldn’t even communicate with customers. They would turn them down in the pharmacy and the manager had a clerk from the front turn them back up all day.

It’s a high paying job for the every day tasks being somewhat easy, but the pressure they are under is just ridiculous

I don't think I've ever had a problem at a drove through pharmacy. Average length of transaction is probably 90 seconds. You're probably just impatient or looking for something to bitch about.

You've never gone to the Wallgreens at Acadian/Government, then.

Exactly. Dry's in Zachary will learn who you are and small talk about shite(the owner used to sit by me at the Box) while filing your script. It's amazing how they manage to stay profitable and beat the pants off the chains in customer service.

Not to mention CVS has been notoriously shopping cheaper and cheaper generics. Not all generics are created equal and they know this all too well.
Feel free to research that on your own. It's not a conspiracy just cheap fricks being cheap fricks.

That Middle Eastern Gal wearing the head thingy(forgive my non-PC arse for not knowing what that's called) at the CVS at Perkins Rowe is good like that too. She's on top of that shite.

The bum (not always the same one, just a bum) always sitting out front of that place really gives it a certain je ne sais quoi.

Worst places ever. How can you know ahead of time what I’m here for and still not have it ready or some issue about it you could have called and cleared up?! Can’t stand these places. Oh and they are staffed by people with no desire to help and no people skills.

Text from CVS: your prescription is ready
Get there: it will be ten minutes while we rerun it.

This.

Also married to a pharmacist. The big twins are wildly understaffed - beyond the point where it’s dangerous for the public - and can’t possibly keep up.

They hate the drive through.

Compounding the staffing issue is that the big twins make insane profits on flu shots this time of year. And guess who is the ONLY person who can give flu shots? The already overworked lone pharmacist on duty.

The big bottleneck is the fact that they legally have to do a “consultation” on every prescription pickup. And the big twins only staff one pharmacist per shift anymore, so no matter how many technicians they have on shift, the limiting factor is the legal requirement for the pharmacist to constantly go around offering consults on every pickup.

All of this. I didn't realize how over-worked and under-staffed that pharmacists at big chains are until my gf started working for Walgreens. She has to do all pharmacist duties, as well as all tech duties most days. They basically expect her to not eat lunch. The amount of unwarranted verbal abuse that she takes day-to-day because people just fricking suck pisses me off just thinking about it.

Maybe the worst part is that Walgreens largely has no security for their pharmacies, even though one gets robbed every fricking day. The Dollar Tree has more security than Walgreeens.
