They don't want most people to go, except for maybe 10-15 peeps.

Was invited to one earlier this year and this many people RSVPed

Bride and groom were absolutely livid that no one wanted to go. Angry texts, social media callouts, the whole nine yards

Are they holding a gun to your head to make you go?

As soon as I see someone getting married in the Dominican Republic or a similar place that’s my excuse not to go, lol. No big deal. I’ll send them a gift.

Let them be angry, lol. Unless they are paying for my expenses, my time off work, etc. they don’t get to decide how I spend my time and money.

Why wouldn’t you just want to enjoy a trip to the DR?

I didn't go to sisterwitch'.1's 2nd wedding. We weren't invited to attend the 1st one in San Francisco... no one. Not parents or siblings. And I wasn't in sisterwitch.2's family wedding picture because everyone else in the family was in the wedding but me.

2nd wedding was LSU Football game day and she broke my father's streak of "x" amount of home games attended.

If you don't want to go, don't. They'll get over it.

Without question, you were invited because they felt obligated. Do everyone a favor and sit this one out.

Courthouse weddings at $25 and no guests are the only way to go

These days I'd agree with ya. The marriage probably won't last 5 years anyway. As an adult that's not long at all. Then you can figure it was all for nothing .

I find destination weddings okay depending on where they are. For example, my daughter was married a couple of months ago in Colorado. They are big into the outdoors and love the mountains. She found a place overlooking Boulder and decided that’s where she wanted to get married. It was a wonderful event. Was a quick flight to and from Dallas but also close enough to drive if you had multiple family members going. The total cost me way more than what my son’s wedding is costing at the end of the year. She only invited a small number of people maybe 50 and almost everyone showed up.
Now to inconvenience someone by picking somewhere that cost thousands of dollars to attend, I don’t think that’s right. If you want to go to a place like that, just go get married by yourself and when you come home, have a huge party. That’s what my wife and I did. We didn’t want to go through all the bs so we decided to go to Hawaii, get married, spend a couple of weeks there and then come home and have a party.

I already have to take days off but you also have it on a Saturday in October and I have to pay for a hotel room in DR.

I dont even know whose wedding it is and Im in. Just send me the deets and I will book a room.

I have been to 3 of them and had some serious fun on those trips.

If I had to do it all over, I would grab my bride, fly somewhere in the Caribbean and get married alone. Spend 10 days down there then come back home and throw a party

Get hitched on the beach then have a week or two alone at a resort area and just let it go

frick all these big expensive weddings.

No, they do it to force their guests to take on the costs of their wedding.

How so? Do they get free accommodations for bringing people to block the rooms at the hotel?

I've been to them, but never felt I'm paying anything to help them out.
