Ok so then why are you worried about what other people do?

I’ve seen some pretty bad engagement rings.

I know my wife wouldn’t have picked out the one I gave her...but I think that’s kind of the point.

I know of a girl in my hometown that after her husband proposed they went back to the jewelry store to get a completely different ring because she didn't like the one he proposed with. This was the day after he proposed.

What kind of dumbass doesn't consult her beforehand.

My lady doesn't know *the exact one* I will get her, but it will be from a list. I do the same shite for other gifts. Takes a lot of guess work out of things. She still gets surprised but is never disappointed.

clearly upgrading an engagement ring is a thing...the question is do most women, even if just secretly, want to ditch sentimental for something nicer?

He's an idiot for not taking it back and telling her she's not the kind of woman he wants to spend his life with.

Women always think they can do better, whether it be their ring, or the guy they are with, or their appearance

not for someone that's only been married for 20 years. I can see if you hit 50 years

or maybe you couldnt afford a nice ring when you first got married and 20 years down the road you can..maybe you may want to get her something special.

But that's not why you started this thread

I was always told that if the woman you're proposing to reacta to the ring before she reacts to you, end it.

If he taped that ring to a football, would it affect his sons ability to kick a 75 yd FG?

It's the most new-money thing in the world for a woman to want a flashy engagement ring.

Your wife knows what's up.
