So unbelievably tiresome, isn't it? At this point, it can't be anything other than wilful ignorance, right?

There's really nothing to defend. But it does get tiresome when one side tries to equate non-science with science.

No I'm not being a dick but you sure are showing my take to be right about being hyper-defensive.

So by pointing out you don't know what you're talking about and yet feel the need to talk as if you do...I'm being hypersensitive?

That's a bold strategy...

And as I've said, if these folks wanted to believe this crazy belief all on their own, then fine. While I happen to think Scientologists are bat-shite crazy, unless and until they start trying to force Xenu bullshite into the public schools I really don;t care all that much about them.

Same here. This is debated and people take the THREAT seriously, because it's exactly that. A threat to scientific literacy. I don't take it seriously because I'm concerned the fricking planet is ACTUALLY 10,000 old and everything was made as is, blah, blah, blah. Same as I don't take seriously the creation myths of Hindus or any other religion. But...if Hindus suddenly started attempting to shove their creation myths into public schools, then yeah...I take that threat serious as well.

creation vs the THEORY of evolution.

It boggles my mind that seemingly educated adults continue to misunderstand/misuse this term. Pointing out that it's a scientific theory is not a gotcha.

quote:

The definition of a scientific theory (often contracted to "theory" for the sake of brevity) as used in the disciplines of science is significantly different from the common vernacular usage of the word "theory". In everyday speech, "theory" can imply that something is an unsubstantiated and speculative guess, the opposite of its meaning in science.

of course.

I remember reading that it was believed that wolves and dogs evolved from a common ancestor but genetics testing have found that they are the same, selective breeding by humans turned wolves in to what we know as dogs. I have no idea if this is right or not that's why I was wondering.

Yes, Wolves and dogs are the same species.

Evolution is a fact. Living things evolve

I notice you left off 'micro'

For something to be a scientific fact, it has to be observed. No one has observed macroevolution in the way youre trying to espouse as fact. Because a guy like Otto Schindewolf can use the term to counter Darwin, all evolution is now viewed as one, since macro- cannot be proven. They simply cannot account for the transformative/intermediate fossils.

In fact, science has even abandoned the search for them and created cladistics about a decade or so ago, because they openly admit . . . .
quote:

it is almost impossible to be sure that any form represented in the fossil record is a direct ancestor of any other. In fact, because evolution is a branching process that produces a complex bush pattern of related species rather than a linear process producing a ladder-like progression, and because of the incompleteness of the fossil record, it is unlikely that any particular form represented in the fossil record is a direct ancestor of any other.

But soldier on. Long after youre dead and gone, they will come up with a completely different theory, as to the ones youre currently convinced of. Because that's what has happened to Darwin since he died

Why would I include it? The distinction doesn't exist except in the minds of creationists.

You're referring to speciation, which has, in fact, been observed, numerous times.

I get it. You believed what you read that X happened over a tremendously LONG period of time, which is impossible to be observed, but another guy reads about someone who built a big boat and saved 8 lives from a flood, is a nut

Its all a matter of faith. Good luck with yours

I know exactly what I am referring to, and No, what I am referring to is physically impossible to have been observed. Because it occurred during a time when humans were incapable of recording their observations. Let alone living long enough to observe the changes

We have actual proof for evolution and speciation. Like...thousands and thousands of pages and pieces of evidence. Genetics proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

There is absolutely no proof whatsoever for a worldwide flood, and all scientific data says that it is impossible to trace all animal ancestary back to pairs or all human ancestry back to 8 people.

One has evidence. One has none.

This is why I despise your ilk. Believe what you want to believe. Don't try to equate the two because they are not equal.

Just say, "despite all evidence to the contrary, I believe what I believe because it brings fulfillment to my life, whether it is actually real or not" and leave it at that.

Hmmm, lets see

All life from a single planet contains similar building blocks? Wow! Its as if the creator, or the natural selector, had the same materials to work with

Mindblown
