Do cops that go to jail have it better or worse than non cops?

The criminals inside, no doubt, put a target on former cops. But do the security guards in jails try to “protect their own” ?
The guy in the story on the first page here at Chik Fil A will probably get no sympathy from security guards because he did something completely stupid.
But what about more iffy situations like Derick Chauvin

Always wondered if they are put into protective custody or not.

Once they find out you're a cop, you're done. The security guards have little control of the population

Sounds like the makings of a Shawshank Redemption spinoff.

Whats his situation? I wonder if he is in gen pop? I doubt it, but they should turn him lose in there just to see how it goes. A former cop in jail for the shite he did.. I am sure the guards would probably inform the inmates what he did and let things go as they may.

A few years ago a local MS sheriff’s son got a life sentence. They put him in protective custody on death row at Parchman. He hung himself within a year or two most likely due to isolation from being locked in a cell alone pretty much 24/7/365.

Most places they are placed in protective custody with others that can not make it in gernal population. That could mean there own area or a segregated area from the rest. They dont have it bad and probably have it better in PC than GP due to the fact that only other cops or scared people are there.

This is completely false. Cops are typically just placed in PC but can get out in GP after a while.

This is why they are placed in protective custody and kept away from general populations. Stop watching prison tv shows as they are not accurate.

I think it depends.
On what you did, and who the hell you did it to.

If I remember correctly Louisiana has a special facility near Monroe for cops.

David Wade Correctional Center. Yes, ex police officers in LA sentenced to hard labor are sent to DWCC to be placed in PC.

I have no doubt about that. Was just wondering if the guards may be more protective since he was fricked over.

They should be isolated as much as possible from the general population. No matter how heinous the crime the state should take safety and security in prison serious if for nothing else than to keep employees as safe as possible. Having a riot break out or even a fist fight is a good way for some person barely earning a living to get seriously injured.
