Bham--Tuscaloosa drivers are like the worst tailgaters in the country. They do it in the right lane. They do it in the left lane. They do it if you're driving 90. They do it if you're driving 45. They don't even necessarily want to pass you. They just want to accelerate until they can't anymore. It drives me fricking crazy.

Drive on I495 in the DMV. People will ride your arse and flip you off for not getting in the exit lane quick enough.

I was just giving you a hard time, ya know. Your driving culture is difficult to adjust to. Have compassion for us newbs, please!
I detest tailgating too, for the record. I always keep a 2.5 car distance from anyone else. I just always see fricking snowbirds parking in the left lane doing 74 and lacking any kind of awareness of traffic patterns.

Meh, I'm from Houston. Literally learned to drive in a big-city environment. There's something -- different -- about Alabama. You wouldn't know unless you know.

Like driving 95MPH from north Birmingham all the way to 565?

I enjoy 20-50* weather. I could slap on a pair of chinos + pullover and be perfectly content down to around 35*.
There was never weather in SLC that made me want to stay inside; that is not the case in SE Texas or SE Louisiana.

Southern AZ you deal with the heat for a few months and then have awesome weather the rest of the year.

I hate the South, only remain because of the wife. Want to go back to the Pacific Northwest where I can hike/backpack, snow ski, kayak, fish and bicycle everywhere I need to go. Could care less about the political leanings of the population there.

Other than skiing, you can do all of that here - though biking in town may be tough.

Exactly!
Back to the OP -- I am not burned out. I like it here. Don't necessarily see myself staying forever, and there are things I would like to be different, but overall I have a pretty good QOL.

I am burned out on the South at the moment, but I have to move back to the democratic people's republic of northern cuba (aka Miami) for a few months to finish up school. So that will fix my burn out.

I live in Texas so I try to convince myself I’m in the West

The south and all its problems >>> anywhere else.

I don't get burned out on the south, but I do get tired of the humidity and the insects. I do periodically take a week to travel out west to do some fly fishing or something like that and I am good to go for another few months, though.
