12 years - some meetings are healthier than others. Find a home group with committed people who focus on the solution and not the problem.

Quit procrastinating on doing the steps. A lot of relief in your future as you complete each one.

Get to a point in your life where you aren’t dependent on meetings to stay sane. Your substance of choice is a symptom of your problem. Fix what’s between your ears so you can go out and live life. If you have to go to a meeting every day or you’ll go crazy, after some substantial length of sobriety, you haven’t made any progress.

It's not that I'll go crazy it just feels like something is missing from my day. I guess I've turned that into another habit albeit a healthier one.

I get what you're saying though. As time goes on Id like to get to what you're saying. I stopped this month taking the sublecade shot. I still have knots in my stomach from past ones where the gel is still there so the buprenorphine is still there but I talked with my sponsor and decided to get off it.

If you're in Monroe, I probably know your sponsor. I dislike Monroe for many reasons but it was a good place to get sober.

The noon meeting on Forsythe was one of my favorites.

Will hit 7 years sober in June. Keep at it. It's worth it.

Yep

Gotta get through making your amends… that took me a damn long time

But I tell people I am always on step one, I am powerless over alcohol

the fact that I despise meetings in general so virulently is enough to keep me from becoming an addict

as soon as I sit down at even the most casual of meetings my legs start shaking and I start looking for an exit

Keep it Simple

Yeah that's a good meeting, I go to it on days I don't work. NELA has tons of rehab facilities and lots and lots of sober houses in Monroe and lots of meetings. It's definitely a good place to try and sober up.

This scares me death. I don't know that I have it in me to get sober again. I absolutely positively without a doubt can NEVER drink another drop of alcohol again and I'm fine with that.

Been in AA and sober since March 6, 2019. Worked the steps, have helped others - usually step 4 is when people get lazy. Don't do that.
Also, don't try to reinvent the wheel for something that has helped millions of people for a century. Listen to your sponsor, stay sober, and go to meetings.

Also, if you're into podcasts- check out SoberCast. I listen to them frequently while I'm out on the road and need a meeting. It's a speaker meeting per podcast, usually good descriptions of the background of the speaker. A couple of my favorites are Adam T and Earl H. I'm actually friends with Earl - he has a story that many of us here could relate to. A lot of his talks are on YouTube as well. LINK

Here. I relapsed recently, but have 38 days now. Meeting makers make it.

Believe it or not, but 12 steps is not a bad way to live life even if you have never had an addiction. I’m on 18 months sober but do not attend meetings but I do work on steps.

The most important thing to remember: You are an addict and always will be.

When my dad got clean, he forgot that. A little sip here and there les back to the drugs and put him six feet under. Our reward was getting to give him a closed casket because he was dead in the woods for three months.

You can be clean for 20 years and relapse. Do the work, everyday. Avoid shitty situations. If you have a SI, put that person in charge of the family budget, and get on an allowance.

Relapsed 3 months ago after 2 years and 7 months sober. Only reason I haven't drank today is because I can't keep anything down.

It works wonders for some, not so much for others. It helped me, though I didn't do the program.

Were you into cocaine, being a former restaurant server?

I've done coke for sure but uppers aren't really my thing unless it's complimenting some h in a speedball. Can't stand meth although I'd occasionally get a wash from somebody that had it mixed in there with it.

My drug was shooting heroin and fent.
