I didn’t like it. I went to a Christian based rehab and found a group of people who truly wanted to help me. Of course I have to help myself too. If you really have a problem, look up Home of Grace. It literally changed my life and because of it I’m forever grateful. Won’t go into a long story but the connections I made there spiritually and on the coast has blessed me more than I type here.

I had just gotten though detox a few days before that game. Watched it alone in the dark. That was rough.

You'd be double the alcoholic if that were the case.

You need to fix yourself before you can give your self to someone brah.

Haha, no shite. His account is a troll I'm pretty sure, but maybe others can learn from this.

I'm facing this in sobriety again. And it's against a girl who still parties. It doesn't work. What I'm learning again is that I have to find what I need within myself before I can get involved with someone else. Otherwise it's just a time bomb waiting to go off.

If it’s financially feasible, I would always recommend a non 12 step rehab first. AA has too many self-appointed gurus who insist their way is the only way. I’ve known two people who “worked the program” for years, then “backslid” and went nuts binging. Programs more forgiving of relapse/moderation tends to be more realistic and less cultish.

I've worked the program and I agree with everything above.

As for the OP, the actual science on 12 step program isn't great. There is no evidence that they work any better than other non-12 step programs.

Rewiring your brain to stop any habit and to resist feelings that you crave is very difficult

In many cases- but not all. Some can't get past the idea of drinking whiskey while blindfolded.

Sure, if you can take unhappy, jacked up on coffee and cigarettes people. The non stop whining about their lives is a high point, though. You'll hear enough stories to make you feel good about yourself.

I've been sober for about 8 months and have been having a really tough day/week. For the first time in 8 months I truly feel like my sobriety is in jeopardy. Last night after brushing my teeth and using mouth wash I legit thought about taking a swig of listerine. Freaking crazy!! Alcohol wasnt even my thing. Also, whenever I get like this it's really hard for me to call my sponsor or reach out to my recovery friends I guess out of fear/shame. I suppose that's was hy I'm reaching out to you all. Supadave3 I may legit email u tonight

This is a program similar to AA, but without the 12 steps or abstinence requirement. The guy who started this is a visionary genius, and I don’t just hand out that kind of praise. I’ve seen it turn the most wounded people into community leaders and professionals.

Yeah that's when it's really hard but so needed. I have to interrupt that thought that says it's ok to have a drink. I have to get help from other people. The good news is that the more I force myself to reach out and ask for help the easier it gets. You can email me too if you want. Replace the 3 in my name with a 28 @gmail.com.

Im 7 years sober and kind of dry right now.

Maybe I should risk losing my family and high paying job because AA is bullshite.

Nawwww. Participation in AA and working steps multiple times has given me redemption.
