Playing favorites in travel ball is messed up. In red ball I give the dads credit for stepping up when so many just sit in the stands and watch. Coaches want to play their kids then more power to them. Don’t like it? Step up and volunteer to coach. Most rec leagues are short on coaches.

This is a problem, and it shouldn't be this way.
You are absolutely correct that it shouldn't be this way but it is and there is nothing a parent can do about it other than make the decision that their child won't play HS baseball at the age of 7. Since every other kid is getting reps all year long, you child will fall behind no matter how naturally gifted they are if they don't join a team. Baseball is the one sport where a kid can't just be a better athlete than others so its get the reps and improve or fall behind.

Had a kid that played with my daughter. Couldn’t make the highschool roster but started over 2 freshman all state and 3 other girls that did make the high school roster. Guess who’s mom gave the best bj???

I've always wondered who is making money off of this and how can I get in on this scheme
Baseball has been able to leverage this crap into making parents drive all over the damn place to waste their time and money on mediocre kids that will never see high school ball much less college far better than most sports.

Absolutely not! If you have talent, they will find you, I promise. AAU and travel ball are the in thing right now and a huge money-making venture. It does help to get your son/daughter out there against better competition, but if they have big time talent, colleges will find them, regardless if they play AAU or travel ball.

move his kid to a different position anytime he messed up. It was always an infield position. He would have the most athletic kid on the team in center or right while his son was at short stop, then moved his kid, who was maybe the 3rd or 4th shortest kid on the team to 1st.
I love how the fact that you know absolutely NOTHING about baseball doesn’t stop you from sharing 7-8 paragraphs of dogshit with the board

There are a lot of parents who just want their kids to be in competitive sports and get great training from people other than dads who did not make a college ball team.
With baseball the way I understand it is good luck trying to make it to any level after high school unless you have been in travel ball. Right or wrong that is just how it is setup now.

Agree that rec ball only is not enough reps. That is the problem we have, as our kids are not travel, and have a hard time keeping up with the kids who have the benefit of constant organized baseball. This is just an observation and not a complaint, though, as our kids can start playing on their school teams by sixth grade, so they will get the more frequent reps starting then. And then once you get into high school, a player's growth and physical development comes more into play, and that can be a great equalizer if a kid did not play travel when younger. I can think of several of these travel kids who are "hot stuff" right now but are going to be greatly outgrown by others at the end of the day.
You can't be Paul Skenes if you stop growing at 5'9" no matter how much travel you played when you were eight.

Yes because they all pay the same price. In that case, they owe it to the kids and their parents to play the best kids for each position.
I think most of the tournaments they were in, they were guarantee to play 3 games. They played 2 games. It was usually 2 games on Saturday and at least one on Sunday. One a team lost they were out. But every weekend it was a different tournament. It wasn't like a season where the team with the best record won the league or they played a tournament at the end to award the a team the champs of that year. Every weekend there was a tournament champ. And there were several teams that played in every tournament.
So each week it was the same 3 or 4 teams with maybe 2 to 4 teams (depending on how many teams the tournaments allowed) they only played in that tournament. I want to say there were 8 tournaments.. it could have been more, but thats 8 chances to win a tournament. They won 1 tournament and I think it was one in which some teams backed out and maybe one other team didn't have enough players show. On that Sunday, they had to win the first game to make the championship, which they did.
I bet the local places that sell the trophies loves travel ball. And good for them, but man... I don't know how parents do that from the year their kids are old enough to play until.. I guess 8th grade?

nephew did it, he was pretty good, had a couple offers from smaller d1 schools...but dad pushed him so much he didn't want to play anymore and turned them down

Swimming seems like the best sport to get your kids into. Great demographics, not that expensive but an upper echelon group of kids anyhow, and it gets them in great shape. Very few injuries and not much travel. Plus the meets are fun.
