What about 85K posts on Tiger Droppings?

I don’t see the difference between always playing video games with your “clan” and talking to strangers on a website, non stop.

Apparently this is becoming a major issue now with grown mens playing video games all Hours of the night.

What kind of grown man plays video games until all hours of the night? Or much at all, for that matter?

Oh... and mens? Brings back memories of this:

You don't see the difference between posting on a message board while at work
versus
playing video games with a headset on while ignoring your 4 yr old, 18 month old, and wife at 630pm on a Tuesday Evening?

Ignoring the bossman <> the bosswife.

I played a ton of games from Atari 2600 to PS2. I love video games. I just can't justify time to play them these days.

In my years I recall some estimated marathon video game sessions:
a million hours on Adventure, Pitfall, Kaboom, Human Cannonball, Missile Command, Combat, and Beserk Atari 2600
a million hours on Pitfall 2, Moon Patrol, Hero, Star Raiders Atari 5200
12 hours straight Metroid. NES
30 hours on Miracle Warriors SMS(Sega Master System)
70 hours on Phantasy Star 1 SMS(sega master system)
100 hours on Phantasy Star 2 Sega Genesis
18 hrs straight on the First Resident Evil PSX
30 hrs in two days on first Metal Gear Solid for PSX
70 hours in a month on FF7 PSX
50 hours on Madden 99? or 2000 for PS2
100 hours on GTA 3 and Vice City PS2(ex 1 was in Law School and before 1st kid was born)

I ain't hating on video games. Just rising opportunity cost of playing them from after college until kids are grown. I 100% plan to get back into gaming by 48-50yrs old.

You’re not really a man if at bedtime you’re not too tired to play video games.

This is seriously the dumbest logic so it's no surprise a bunch of this idiots on this board have used it every single page of this thread.

What kind of adult says he has a bedtime anyways? I go to bed when I'm tired. Could be 8PM or it could be 1AM.

Too much of anything is a bad thing. It's not just video games. I don't play them, but I know plenty of people who do and are still able to fulfill marital and parental obligations. It's not video games. It's character.

You missed the point. If you’re not tired well before 1am, you’re not doing enough during the day. You’re misusing your energy.

I don’t “have a bedtime”, but there’s a time to go to bed.

I use to play them in my single days. Mostly because I was bored some nights. NCAA football online and Call of Duty were really fun especially when playing with friends. But since I got married I lost most of my free time and the video games were completely phased out. I would rather fish, hunt, and camp with my free time rather than play video games.

Holy shite, people like different things? I had no idea! I know what is appealing about a lot of things grown men do, but playing video games is not one of them. Hence, the question. It isn’t a hard concept.

I mostly play games that involve either an interesting narrative or some form of strategy or both. Modern gaming is much more complex and mentally engaging than most people that dont play games realize and I prefer it to watching tv as a way to unwind at then end of the day. My wife thankfully it enjoys it too.

You sound like the type of guy that is lame enough to be up at 1am on a weeknight playing video games.

I haven't done that in years.

I have however stayed up to around 1 AM watching LSU basketball in the last few months when they were in Maui. As did a lot of people on this site. Is that different?

The idea that someone needs to come home from work everyday absolutely exhausted to be a real man is legitimately one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. You're either blue collar or low T as frick if you have no energy at the end of the day.

Seriously guys. If you have several hours a night to play video games, your life isn't what it could or should be. Invest that into your career or take up a hobby or sport that gets you interacting with friends or family away from the tv and sofa. I've seen people do real business around the tennis court or golf course. I've never seen anyone make contacts playing madden football.

Do you ever think people play video games as a break from all of that stuff you mentioned?

Some people drink for that purpose. I really don't drink.

Additionally, some of us are content where we are career wise.

You heard that somewhere?

I know that when I played video games a lot when first married, it wasn’t an occasional thing. It was most nights, and it was not manly behavior.
My comments in this thread are about people who have a habit of staying up playing video games well past the time their family goes to bed.
IMO that’s a poor use of their time, and I completely understand how it would cause problems in many marriages.
I would think the same about a woman who stayed up hours reading trashy romance novels.
