Stay strong, brother. I would have lost SO much. She would have just spent and sold it all. I'm saving it for my kids.

All I can think about is how she wants to act like the perfect wife for him but was a lying, cheating, pill popping whore with me. Not to mention how she gets pissed having to spend time with her children.

You have to let that go. Be the best Dad you can to the kids, but let go of the past with her. It serves no useful purpose to continue to harp on it. I know the narcissist lying type well. Saw it happen to someone close to me. He finally got past it and was so much happier when he let all of that go and decided to beat her at parenting and make pay her part. He was paying for everything, too. Same guilt business. Don't do it. Go back to court if you have to and if she doesn't pay up, take her back to court. Eventually, she'll get tired of fighting and pay up.

Is this the thread where all you divorcees talk shite about your ex wives and pretend that she was the only crazy one while you were the perfect husband? I love these threads

Not all of us are like that. But I can understand the bitterness that can come from having to pay a woman money while someone else puts the boots to her. Not being raped in the settlement and getting a fair shake with the kids makes life after a whole lot easier.

Why?

Because we were married for over 10 years (even though we were split up after 8 years). If you are married for over 10 years in the military and then retire, the ex-spouse can get a portion of my retirement.

That bitch will get $750 a month until she dies or gets remarried...which she won't do out of spite. Haha. I'm not too pissed though because I am at 90% VA disability and that bitch can't touch a dime of it and she's not happy about that.

It's more complicated than that. If you marry at year 19, retire at year 20 she's highly unlikely to get anything. She had to have met certain criteria, the percentage also varies.

I actually wish you were still married. Your cheating wife made for great OT reading.

Wrong. It's percentage based. You don't get 50% of someone's military retirement if you were married for 1 year.

Jesus. I don't even understand the thought behind allowing that. Marry for 10 years, get $750/month for the rest of your life.

shite, if I haven't run her off yet I doubt it's possible. I am like an old dog that has gray whiskers and sleeps all day now compared to my 20s and 30s.

But I'm still not getting married.

I want to assume that if me and my wife ever divorced for some ungodly reason, she wouldn't go out kicking and screaming. She doesn't really care about money. I know her mom didn't.

She does always ask me when I want to have kids. At times I want them and at times I'm scared. I would hate for things to fall apart.

how many women at the age of 28-32 get married and settle down because its what society dictates they do

Some women this age range actually aren't married? Its very rare that I meet women in this range that are single. As for me, 28 year old guy never married. You lose many friends at this age as they get married and you don't. Society sucks.

No common law in AK, either. You're good.

Where do you live at?

Really depends on that. In the South...yeah they are married with 2 kids at least by 26 and likely on their second marriage at 30. Some other cities...you see more women waiting.

Never assume. They change their tune with the quickness.

Not sure how old you are, but I am scared as hell about marrying the wrong girl. I've become extremely picky and I feel like my criteria for marrying a girl becomes larger the more I date

Last three exes were all in the 27-29 age range. They're out there. Unfortunately they tend to already have a lot of relationship baggage.

You probably would have lost them even if you were married.

common law

fricking bullshite.

I would burn everything I owned before I split it based on that.

I've read up on it a little, very little, but I think if it is applicable in AL then it requires more than just living together. Like putting her down as your spouse on legal documents and such. But I'm no lawyer and quit reading after a minute because I liked that answer.
