It's perfect the first two weeks of December. Crazy crowded after that

Disney, but one area where Disney falls short is large crowds. When Disney gets really packed, the entire system breaks down. They only have so many buses, employees, etc. They can handle things until about 85 percent capacity. Once it gets beyond that, though, they have no additional resources to throw at it, so stuff just comes to a standstill.

This is true, but it's to be expected with the amount of people. The parking lots are probably worse than the busses. They at least higher extra staff and rent commercial busses to help with the crowds.

I went to Universal Studios around New Years once.

It was packed. The lines were hours long everywhere. I wouldn't recommend it.

I worked there in college. Go during Mardi gras. It is empty then. It is pretty slow from January - March.

Avoid that week at all costs, it will take years off of your life. Went last year from the day after Christmas until Jan. 2nd. HOLY shite IT WAS CROWDED. It was like Bourbon St. during Mardi Gras, expect I was pushing a stroller and at least half of the crowd didn't speak English. Going to try it again in a month or so. Hopefully it's less crowded and the wife and 4 year old can get their Disney fix for a few years or 10.

Also, if you have a young child, I would highly recommend the Animal Kingdom Lodge rooms that overlook the animals. Waking up with Zebras and Giraffes right outside your balcony was the highlight of my son's trip last year.

Well sure. We always stay on property so I can't speak to the parking at the theme parks. And yes they bring in commercial buses and drivers but a lot of times, they don't really know where they are going, and there are only so many loading bays.

For me, I don't want to spend premium dollars and get sub-premium service.

We were considering going end of February..
After I got to looking into it looks it's gonna be a 4500-5k trip for the the four of us.

Sorta expensive to be such short notice.
Think I'll wait til next year at this time

Would not recommend that time frame.

The parks are very difficult to enjoy during peak times.

Best experience we have had was 2nd week of November. While I wouldn't call the crowds "light", it was a far cry from the summer/spring break/Christmas madness.

As far as crowds, worst time of the year to go.

You need to hit up one of the Disney travel agent sites. You could easily do a family of 4 for half of that.

As for the OP, look. I LOVE Disney with all my heart. My family and I have had some great memories there but there is no way on God's green earth that I would ever book a trip during Christmas or New Years. This is a pic from a few years ago. My wife and kids like to check out the wait times on Christmas and New Years just for fun and last year Toy Story Mania at one point had a 300+ minute wait.

NO
frickING
THANK
YOU

No one ever goes to Disney World between Christmas and New Years because it's too crowded.....

Last time we went, we used a Disney travel agent (I guess that's what they're called) to set up the whole trip for us. Completely worth it. She worked with my wife to set up our hotel, dinner reservations and fast passes for the whole trip. Plus, going through the agent, we got discounts on the hotel rooms and tickets.

We stopped in Disney for a day on Jan 1 last year. We were going on a Disney Cruise on the 2nd and hit up LegoLand on NYE and Disney on the 1st before the cruise. Absurdly crowded. I was talking with one of the workers and he said they closed the gates at 9:30 the previous day (NYE) because the park was full. I didn't even know that was possible. Weather was great, low 70's. Did get a little chilly at night while at LegoLand the night before.

It's the busiest time of the year. It is really nicely decorated and lots of fun. Not broth 100 degrees makes it a lot more enjoyable.

New Years eve at EPCOT is out of this world fun. I highly recommend it.

Missed your window. First week in December is the best time of the year to go. Low crowds and all the Christmas decorations are up.

Disney keeps their decorations up after New Year's? Trash-y

Is Disney really that worth it to be willing to stand in line for hours on any ride you want to go on? I say no.

Disney needs to change their system. Move to a sports venue like approach. Pre-sell a fixed number of tickets to get into the park for each day of the year. Obviously days like Christmas would be more expensive to buy tickets for. Once a day on the calendar has sold a certain number of tickets it is sold out. This way crowds can be managed.

Went one year during Mardi Gras and had a guy stop me in Epcot and asked what the hell was going on with all the people wearing LSU gear. I told him it was Mardi Gras in Louisiana and everyone with any sense was either skiing or at Disney.
