How many plant baws got caught up in these in the mid 2000s?
Whatever happened with these?

DirecTV, the California-based satellite TV company, has undertaken an aggressive nationwide campaign against viewers using high-tech gadgets to watch its pay TV for free.
The company has sued about 22,000 people as it tries to combat those who think nothing of stealing their signal.

Main thing I remember was that they waited for certain events to happen with a high viewership (Ex - a major WWE PPV) and sent a pulse that fried the cards in question.

Was this the deal where you had the magic card that would give you all the movie and porn channels?
If so, I don’t know nothin’ bout that.

I know they instantly disabled those cards, but I suspect they just wiped any writable memory on them, or changed the code in the boxes to no longer recognize those cards.

I have no idea if it is or not, it is what the people who had one claimed.
Supposedly the pulse happened during the 2001 Royal Rumble because the people I know had their card blow that day and a number of other people claimed the same thing.

Offshore guys too. I think pirating tv on an offshore rig was the genesis of the invention.

Ill have to get the whole story, but we had a family friend that was programming cards and I think he got sued. I dont think he was sued for like $20grand or something.
We never got a card.

I programed these and made a killing at my plant. It was super easy to do. I got the letter about being sued but trashed it, they had no proof. They extorted tons of money from people who were scared and paid the 2500 to "avoid" a lawsuit

quote:right, they just changed their encryption. pushed a new "code" out to cards they knew were paid for.

Hahaha, i used to sell them and had the P4 cards loader back in undergrad. Made a lot of $ seling the systems and even more reprogramming the cards when they got zapped.
Was a good ride until it completed got killed by DirectTv.

I had a cable box with a chip back in the 90s that gave me every Chanel....
Posted on 5/3/19 at 3:44 pm to CarRamrod
It didn't "fry" the cards but there was definitely something they would regularly do that would disable the cards stealing the service

Oh for the wild west days of the 1990s when you could get American XXXstasy with the big arse satellite dish in your yard.
Posted on 5/3/19 at 4:11 pm to GeorgeTheGreek
I could program an H Card in about 30 minutes.
