I just called and after getting hooked up with customer loyalty department she says “No I’m sorry but this discount doesn’t exist and we’ve been getting calls on it for several days”

I’m thinking “hmm ok maybe I should just hang up and try again”

But she says Let me look up what other discounts may be available. Lo and behold, it’s $50 off for the next 12 months. Brought my bill from $145 to $95. Thanks everyone!

Just stay persistent with it if you’re having trouble

Doesn't Sling only have CNN unless you pay for the "news addition?"

Yeah. I don't watch national news though unless there is something major going on. I pay $25 during FB season and $20 the rest of the year when I remove the sports package.

Waste of time. They said they don’t have that promotion for the loyal discount.

Are you suggesting that everyone in this thread who got the discount is lying? You have to be persistent.

I think he may be referring to Sling.

I just called and got the discount too. No problems, took less than 5 minutes. Thanks to OP for this information!

Just got it, but you have to be persistent. They’re gonna try to offer you all kinds of nickel 95 BS discounts, but if you tell them that’s not enough to keep you, they magically find a $50 discount they can give.

It works! Called and got connected with a foreigner who wasn’t budging. She said that the “customer loyalty discount” was a rumor. Hung up on her.

Called back and got connected with a pleasant employee who didn’t acknowledge that specific discount but said “oh! You do qualify for a promotion for $50 off a month.” She also threw in HBO, showtime, cinimax and a sports package for 6 months

Sorry you suck at negotiating

I got the $50 a month discount plus another $5 a month off of HBO.

If you have HBO and an AT&T phone plan you can get HBO free. I didn’t qualify because my phone is through a business account so instead she gave me $5 discount per month.

You don’t necessarily have to be persistent, just be polite and tell them that you’re looking at options to reduce your bill and that includes dropping DirectV all together

I’ve been a customer for 12 years and have 9 recievers. They didn’t want to lose me.

I originally did a 2 year deal and I pay $85 for the first year. I think at the end of year one it goes up to around $150 a month. The end of year is this month for me. Do you think I can get the discount with one year remaining on my contract?

Thanks a ton, brother! I called and spoke with a guy named Sam in the loyalty department, and he was great. I told him that I heard about a customer loyalty offer being presented to customers. He said that they treat every account differently, but he would see what he could do for me. He said he was able to give me the $50/month off for a year and the movie channels free for 6 months.

To address some of the other posters' questions. I am 6 months into a 12-month contract, and I've been with DirecTV since 2014. The $50/month off does not come with any strings attached. There is no contract extension with it.

As for my current contract, I was told to call again in 6 months when it is up so I can negotiate a better deal in addition to the $50 off. Or there may be more discounts available then.

For the movie channels, they go away automatically after 6 months. That's awesome because I would have forgotten about cancelling them and would have had to deal with the hassle of that.

Not a bad deal for a 3-minute phone call. So thanks again High C for saving me $600 over the next year.
