I remember calling it supper as a Texas kid in the 80s, but somewhere along the way it became strictly dinner...and have no clue why. Wouldn’t dare call it supper now; feels strange.

Lunch is called lunch.
I've called the evening meal both dinner and supper, but usually dinner.

Same here (grew up in Chicagoland). My wife is from Georgia and still calls it supper. This really pisses me off sometimes because I love to cook and there's nothing worse than spending 2-3 hours cooking up a fantastic dinner only to see the wife text the family "supper is ready". Sloppy Joes w/ tater tots is "supper". A detailed meal that takes 2-3 hours to prepare is a "dinner". I can't help but feel her verbiage cheapens my effort.

Sunday "dinner" at maw maw's after church at about 12:30 or 1:00. Lunch the other six days, Supper is the evening meal 7 days a week unless you are going out in the evening then it's "Going out to dinner". Clear as mud, right?!
