i think you found the problem

I know multiple Jacksonians who don’t receive a water/garbage bill. They’ve called and get no where. These are people who don’t mind paying their bill.
This blows my mind. It sounds like Eileen Carter and Noonie Man need to give the Jacksonians some advice on how to get the ball moving to out the inept “leadership” of Jackson.

People leaving the city of Jackson did not cause the problem. Mismanagement and neglect did.

Talked to a friend in Jackson today. She says they will go months without getting a water bill. The same thing happened in New Orleans a number of years ago. In New Orleans this was a commercial establishment that typically used 40-50,000 gallons of water a day. That represents $7000-7500 a month in water fees and $14-15,000 a month in sewer costs. So it was over $20,000 a month in lost revenue to the NOSWB. This establishment being the responsible entity it is, called wrote letters and repeatedly asked for a bill. They were told to leave it alone.
My theory is that the NOSWB was trying to paint as bad a picture as possible in order to justify federal government grants and subsequent rate hikes due to the cash flow situation at the SWB. Don’t underestimate the evil and criminal intents of what’s happening in these cities. The worse conditions become the greater likelihood the federal or state government will be to “fix” the problem. The excuses will be numerous but at the root it’s criminal intent.
While there is a larger than fair degree of incompetence involved here I suspect an overt criminal intent to defraud the tax/rate payers. Just pay attention to what’s going on in many of these cities. It’s criminal and it’s premeditated.

I hadn’t thought about them deliberately destroying the system until you brought it up, but your theory does seem to fit the facts.

fricking Dems run the city and allowed this crap to happen. Nobody to blame but their incompetent selves.

Initially 55 years ago racism played a part. 30 years ago not so much. 25 years ago definitely more crime related and job opportunities outside city. Jackson was also losing educated folks to Birmingham, Memphis and Nashville and even tupelo. Plenty of banking oops there. 15 years ago racism. But it was racist black "leaders" driving out the last few hopeful leaders and folks trying to make a difference. Now it is Mogadishu. Jackson would have double or triple the crime, but the criminals are too busy boiling water and trying to take a shite to have gun fights over territory.
Makes me sad. Because there are some great people and places in other parts of the state.

Democrats don't run the city. Black nationalists/fascists posing as Democrats run the city.

Why exactly does the absence of white people prevent a municipality from maintaining its services? It’s odd how white people can’t win. We’re damned if we’re present and damned if we’re absent.

I don’t agree with a lot that’s in this article but there is zero doubt that white flight out if the city is a primary cause

What's fascinating is that several other cities around the country in the south and even the Mississippi Delta have better race relations than Jackson. JAckson might be the most racist place on earth followed by Minneapolis and several other northern cities. And when I say racist it doesn't mean white racism or brown racism or yellow racism or black racism. I mean all mofos.

Start paying more attention. There will be more money thrown at water and wastewater issues in the future. It’s an emotional and easily politicized issue. Much of the money is justified, as deferred maintenance and a lack of will to solve out of sight, out of mind, issues don’t get much press and politicians hate to raise water and sewer fees. Politicians don’t get reelected for having the best water and sewer plants in the cities.
By law revenue generated by water and sewer fees must be used for the operation and maintenance of the systems. This includes a fund for long term sustainability of the system. This is how rates are determined. Politicians don’t want to raise rates as that’s directly tied to them. Most water systems are run by political entities. Also, Politicians are notorious for taking these funds and diverting them for more “voter friendly” endeavors like parks, bike paths, etc. It’s unlawful but anybody notice the lack of law enforcement in our current political climate. Rule of law….what?
We have to demand better. Hopefully a critical mass of folks will start to realize the waste of tax and fee income and get involved to a greater extent. I’m not privileged to know exactly how Jackson or the NOSWB got in such bad condition but maybe a good journalist can investigate. Do we have any of those anymore?

If white folks leave it’s white flight. If we come back it’s gentrification.
We honky’s can’t win.

It will be interesting to see how much of Mitch’s $1 trillion actually makes it to worthy projects.
it will be really sad after Spending ridiculous amounts of money if these issues aren’t actually fixed.

Again, I said I didn’t agree with much of the article but when I starting practicing law nearly every big law firms main office was in Jackson, now I think it’s Bruni or maybe no one. All of the business and basically white people moved to Clinton, Canton etc. Therefore, the city lost a ton of tax money. That’s a simple fact. Why they moved in my opinion was not racism but for better areas. When lawyers are getting robbed going to their cars they are going to leave.
The City’s management is a horror show and really a federal investigation should be launched into the missing millions. it’s basically a third world city. i am not getting banned over this shite so that’s all I am going to say
