It's a huge embarassment to the state on I-10. LA can't even afford to make the road at the state line decent?
This is my visual description.

The thing that baffles me about traffic in Louisiana is we'll be cruising along on the interstate and come to a random complete stop. It'll be bumper to bumper with periods of no movement at all. This will happen for about 1-2 miles. You expect to see an accident or something that causes the backup. Nope. Nothing. Just random traffic. Then all of a sudden you start cruising along again.

35E in Dallas and 35W in Ft.Worth are getting expanded and added express lanes as we speak. You are experiencing traffic due to a project that consumes about 12 miles for 35E and 15 for 35W. NTTA and TxDOT work magic here. LaDOT can't even draw a plan without 100 mil. We build monoliths in that time.

maybe the Mississippi river has something to do with that?

You should try 35 North of Dallas.
That 35 road construction with the lanes going left to right, up and down, back to left to right is pretty terrible. How many years has that been going on already? In any case, I'd rather have some sort of progress on the roads like that instead of the horrible stretch of I-10 between BR and Laffy.

Another thing is Louisiana drivers are among the slowest drivers in the lower 48
Good God they really are.
People drive like they have no where to be and to top it all off, they do it in the left fricking lane.

NTTA has a youtube video explaining the next year phases for that corridor as well as drive by videos.

This.
Also, why can't LaDOT build a freeway that connects Lafayette to New Orleans without having to make a blank trip through BR? Or at least Lafayette to LaPlace? You could probably save at least 30 minutes (not counting traffic) without having to go through BR.
If TXDOT was in charge of building freeways in Louisiana, I guarantee you wouldn't have to drive through BR to get from Laffy to NO.

Should have turned North on 259 and gotten drunk in Jefferson. It's your best bet that close to the LA line.

Also very different soil that the roads are being built on. I-10 in LA is mostly on soft swampy soil not hard clay.
Posted on 6/16/16 at 2:42 pm to JamalSanders
quote:this is actually easily refuted against. the Mississippi river traversing between its current location to lake charles over eons has mad the sublayer of soil extremely volatile. Mississippi is up on the rock bluff, as evidence of the bluffs on the mississippi side of the river.
The roads tell the difference. It should say something when the roads IMPROVE going into Mississippi.
There just isnt enough funding, as well as, LA politicians not allocating the needing funding to keep the roads in mediocre condition.

It is not a loop, it is a spur. Spurs start with odd numbers (110, 310, 510, etc.) while loops start with even numbers (210, 610, etc.).
Interstates that run north-south are odd numbers (5, 45, 49, etc.) and the east-west routes are even (10, 12, 20, etc.)

I went through Houston with no lane closures and still came to a complete stop

I don't believe it's ever gone that far west. The cheniers are evidence for the River always being to their east.

Driving in two weeks from NOLA to Dallas via Shreveport. How bad is it gonna be?
Texas does more of their major construction at night, which helps.
Plus, LA drivers are crap and slow down and don't know how to drive through construction zones, and LA workers are crap and don't know how to timely get roadwork done.

Plus as soon as you hit the La state line the road turns to shite.
Glad I'm living on the side with the good roads.

LADOTD is the worst. It seems like they do shite just to actually have something to do.
Couple of months ago on I-20 near Minden they trenched out the solid white line for around 10-15 miles only to repave it and paint over it. What was the point of that?
As soon as that got done they made it one lane again and started cutting slits into the sides of I-20 only to repave them as well.
They finally got done with that and what do you know, we're back again to a one lane and now doing god knows what.
Eta: why the hell I-20 through Shreveport and Bossier City hasn't been redone yet is beyond me. There's something useful they could accomplish.

I'll say, I hated the interstate designs in Houston. The way you merge on is crazy, and those service roads are giant speed traps.
There are some merges in Dallas where the two freeways just have a lane from each going right together. I don't understand how they don't have wrecks constantly, if nothing else by people unfamiliar with the area. I must be missing something.
