nope, all we had when we got married was debt, and she is more than welcome to half of that if we split.

Nope. And she's rich as hell.

I didn't have significant assets when I got married so no need for one

Ok, but asssuming you're the breadwinner, because if I'm not mistaken you've mentioned that if you lose your job your wifes $50k/yr job wouldn't do you much good - Now that you've worked your arse off to provide most of the income/assets/property don't you feel a little vulnerable knowing that she could go get the BBC and then take half of the assets, half your retirement, and possibly get alimony for the rest of her life in some cases. Wouldn't you feel a little better knowing that in the event that y'all split, especially in the case of adultery, that you would be at least somewhat protected?

Nope. Divorce wasn't something we talked about. 15 years later, still haven't.

Nope we both did... 2nd marriage for both so we each had protected assets

Do you wish you had signed a prenup for your first marriage? What was it about the first split that made you realize you needed one for your second marriage?

I don't know what attorney you talked to but a prenup isn't going to protect assets you earn while married. They are designed for older people that go into the marriage with high net worth.

Pre-nups can cover anything, not just separation of assets.
They are a good idea for every marriage no matter the incoming financial situation of the parties.
You can outline terms of a separation, etc. Require no lawyers/court, agree on children, etc.
A lot of important things can be settled with that document to prevent divorce attorney's from taking everything by dragging out a separation.

Yea that's a cool myth but here in the real world a prenup can protect assets regardless of age or net worth. Without a contract in place prior to marriage, you both tacitly agree to split assets according to the law governing the state you reside in.....and generally speaking it doesn't fare well for the higher wage earner.

you can write whatever you want in them but in reality they are just a starting point for negotiations

I didn't want to bring it up because I was afraid she wouldn't take half of my debt

My wife and I have/had one. I was working at the time and it was easier to just sign the damn thing and move on rather than try and deal with the board. We sold the business so it's a moot point, she gets half my shite now anyway.

Everybody needs a prenuptial agreement. People think you gotta be rich to get a prenup. Oh no! You got 20 million and your wife want 10, big deal! You ain’t starvin’. But if you make 30,000… and your wife want 15, you might have to kill her.

What does your prenup state?
Posted on 2/18/16 at 8:36 am to DaTroof
Neither of us had any pre worth getting a Nup for.
Posted on 2/18/16 at 8:36 am to DaTroof
Yes.
Signed a basic one that states in the event of a divorce, she gets nothing from me, and I get nothing from her (house is mine because I bought it before we got together)
