It was part of the deal when Tulane went private...take a look about what Mitch and clown show can give....

Louisiana isn’t even the most represented state in the student body with this scholarship. If they did away with it, New York would completely overrun campus.

Well the kid still has to get into Tulane on their own. Which isn't exactly a walk in the park.

Only poor people need Tulane scholarships

Yes.
It is a benefit those slimy POS get.
They can also examine their campaign contribution list when deciding who they will give the "scholarships" too.

The scholarship is a payback to the state from the time when Tulane transformed from a public institution to a private one. One of the requirements the legislature place upon the move was that each legislator got to send one student to Tulane for free for that year.

Yes, my son just graduated from Tulane in 16 on a Scholarship from a State Senator. You do have to meet all the entrance requirements though.

Most of the ones I knew had requirements to keep it but if you met them you could keep it all 4 years.
I would have to imagine that the spirit, if not the letter, of the program is for these to be 4 year scholarships.
It would suck to be told "Hope you enjoyed having freshman year for free...now we're going to need 50 grand for the next three years if you want to stay!"

It's hard to believe these scholarships still exist, but they are grandfathered in too strongly. There was a lot of negative press about this in the mid 1990s, but that eventually subsided.
Tulane in its current state is an interesting social experiment, with wealthy out of staters coming into New Orleans and running wild in one of the top party cities. It has changed a lot in 30 years -- back in the day it's where all the uptown New Orleans kids went to college. Now hardly any of them even consider Tulane, unless there is scholarship money involved. I grew up five blocks from Tulane and it is a neat place, but no way it's worth $69k a year, all inclusive.

Yeah, this is old news. Really came out when incompetent New Orleans Mayor Sidney Barthelemy (NOLA mayor gets one, too) gave his to his SON and stupidly put it in a listing of all scholarships awarded to Brother Martin grads, as in "Sidney Barthelemy, Jr. - Mayor's Academic Scholarship to Tulane University."
What a dumb-arse.
An old friend/college roommate, Steve Scalise, was elected to the legislature in 1995 after all this came out. I happened to live in his District. He set up a review system with open applications, interviews before a small board of appointees, etc. for each scholarship, each year. I served on his board until I moved out of the District a few years later. That was on the up and up and the right way to do it.
I wonder if it's gone back to nepotism now that 22 years have passed....

The family of Judge Edmund Reggie of Crowley La, who was the puppet master behind Edwin Edwards, and other LA politicians, whose daughter Victoria was married to Ted Kennedy, received Tulane scholarships for 34 years.
LINK
"As an influential member of the Democratic Party in Louisiana, Edmund Reggie had a voice in who would be nominated and supported in campaigns for public office — a position that earned him a reputation as a "kingmaker" [1]. That may help explain, at least in part, how members of his family would obtain a total of 34 years of scholarships from eight Louisiana legislators to attend Tulane University."

In order to get the scholarship, you have to be admitted to Tulane...not a lot of kids from Evangeline Parish are getting into Tulane, baw.

They can give it away to anyone. No real guidelines on who gets it.
Nope. Pretty sure that’s not right. You have to get like a 30 on your ACT to be eligible
LINK
Requires a 28 on the ACT and that you finish in the top 25% of your class
