According to this 2014 article they had been gone from Houston for 30 years. The few here now are not branded as 7-11 but Tetco.

In Japan those stores are called "Seven Ereven."

It's been years since I have even seen a 7-11. Didn't know they were still in business.

They're either not in a city, or are on every damn corner. There no middle ground. Their food sucks, but their coffee is pretty solid by gas station standards. But I still miss Brother's. Their chicken is the shite.

Not surprising at all. They absolutely love whiskey.

Both wrong. Southland Corp. owned both 7-11 and for a time Citgo. Southland sold 1/2 ownership of Citgo, bought back the stock and went to a family owned private corporation, went bankrupt and sold 7-11 to the Japanese, and Citgo completely to Venezuela.

PS
Dad retired from Citgo in the mid 90's, he started in 1965 with them (Cities Service Oil Co.) designing gas stations and ended up Purchasing Manager 3 doors down from the CEO. A long way from the dirt floor shack on a cotton farm of his origins.

Side note, not many Japanese companies have the branding that those in the US have, or at least international recognition. Beyond Sony, Toyota, and Nintendo are there any Japanese companies you can think of off the top of your head
