With three kids ages 5 and under its tough but we try. When they get older it will be much more often. I start an usher rotation for the evening service this month which gives me great pleasure. Church centers and grounds me and gives me a chance to thank the lord and ask for his forgiveness.

My mother was a guilted Morman. She was also an alcoholic...quite the contradiction with LDS teachings. My father could give a shite and didn't go to church w us most of the time. We went to church w her Sundays. She was adamant we'd be good Mormans, despite her own failings. When my older sister was able to drive, she would tell our parents we were going to LDS Tuesday youth group and we'd instead meet our hippy friends and do hippy stuff.

Morman lifestyle is great if you can hack it.

While in college I had a roommate who was a fairly strict Catholic. I went to mass w him and began appreciating the beauty and promise of the Church. My first wife was Catholic and I joined. It was a wonderful for fellowship, but the logic of it never took root in my scientific mind.

These days, my current wife and I have our own Sunday AM worship. We've exposed our teenage boys to various religions and are letting them make their own paths. I have numerous friends with strong faith and totally respect it.

God bless.

Please give 10% of your income to get into heaven. It costs a lot to be this nice.

Oh and anything not spent on heaven will go towards real estate and lawsuit settlements.

Two actually. Product of a south Louisiana mixed marriage. Mom was Catholic and dad Southern Baptist. So it was 8am mass and then 9-12 Sunday School for me until I was around 13.

Yes we did. At least till my parents divorce which coincided with my rebellious teenage years. I gave my life over to Christ at the age of 18. I haven’t looked back, serving my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for almost 32 years. I have since gone into the ministry and have lived abroad (hence my name) as a missionary planting churches. I have had the privilege of planting directly 6 churches and indirectly another another 7. I currently pastor a church that we have planted here stateside.

Though I was foolish in my younger years I remember with much fondness my early years of being raised in the church. In fact I am close friends (right at 40 years) with a guy who I attended church with.

Yep. I might miss 2-3 sundays a year.

Community with the body of Christ is very important. It is sad that so many stopped going to church. That is the result of a few things: the war on the church by govt. and media, the sleeping of the people of the church, the worldlyness creeping into many of the major denominations, and not sticking to the word.

When you were growing up, did your parents take you to church?

Raised devout Catholic, and mass was not an option, but then very little was in my house growing up.

Do you feel like it had an impact on your life or was just something you had to go to every week?

It introduced me to God, although it was more religious obligation than it was true faith, but I do think it planted a seed in me that later became real faith and a path to putting my trust in Christ for my salvation.

Now that you’re an adult, do you still go to church or did you leave it behind?

I tune into church services, but mostly watch and listen to biblical teachers I respect and who hold to sound biblical doctrine throughout the week, not just on Sunday. I do need to join and become involved in a local church because I really want to be a part of that, but truthfully, as a older single man, I just haven’t found a place where I feel I belong.

Cult of Christ

Meh. What belief (or non-belief) system didn't start as a cult, by definition?

One or two people start something, others buy-in and start making noise - bang! Cult. Time eventually mainstreams it.

Not directed at you Stache.... Personally, I grew up going to church and still do. The majority of my best, most trusted friendships are there. Great support system and for (the most part) people who would do anything for you. Real friends.

Beliefwise, creation makes more sense (to me) than random chance due to the astromical odds and complexity of what we are and the things around us. I also find the Bible to be a great source book for personal living and answering most of the big questions in life, but I can understand why some would be disillusioned due to bad experiences. Hopefully they're all held accountable at some point.

Yes I did, yes it did, and yes I still do. Saved by Christ in that Southern Baptist church at age 9. Raised my kids in same church. God is still first in my life, and my family's life.
