Did you actually read any of your college textbooks?

I'm going with NO. I did enjoy the American History narrative books but I couldn't focus for 30 seconds on a biology or chemistry book.
Somehow I still graduated.

Japanese and computer science only

I didn’t even buy them. Spent my book money at Fred’s

I never got a single one. Most professors test off their lecture and if you need anything out of the book for an assignment you can find free pdfs of them online.

No….they were utterly useless.. the strange thing is, it has been nearly 40 years since I graduated, and I’ve still got every one of them!

I get that college nowadays is mostly about credentialing, but if you’re paying for the school and spending the time to be there, why not make the most of it and learn? I wish I had the time just to read material from classes I picked out now

No I mostly used lecture notes/powerpoints or YouTube. Some classes did have practice problems I would use them for
In medical school I did buy some books for board study but didn’t buy a single required textbook for my classes.
There’s a bunch of free resources out there these days. Certain random guys on YouTube teach topics better than even my professors

All of them. Still have them, too, but I rarely refer to them now.

Pre-internet, absolutely! If your profs only tested from their notes, then that's a comment on the school, the major, or both.
Today? I might, really hard to tell. Offspring in engineering classes seem to be using theirs in addition to all the online options.

Why wouldn't you read them? You can't really learn shite through osmosis.

I was computer science major and just happened to be a hacker. Thus I was able to find all of my textbooks for free in PDF format on Russian servers.
Only books I had to buy and pay money for were my Math books...because they had a license code you needed for the HW software
I saved thousands of dollars in college by downloading bootlegged books and laughed at the people taking out student loans to payfor them.

I had Dr Ho and Dr Cho so if I didn’t study the textbook I wouldn’t have learned a damn thing.

That's your professor's failure, not yours.
It seems like you wasted a bunch of money on books you didn't need.

I’m 43 and graduate in may. I do read the stuff I’m interested in and want to use. Seeing the academic side of business methods that I’ve been subjected to has been beneficial. Its also amusing to see how bad management is at using those methods.

No. And for some reason, I still have some of them.

Most universities require professors to require a text - so you have to go buy them at the bookstore. It's a scam.
