Did the quarter get worse in recent years or am I just older?

My wife's family is all from Metarie, so we have been visiting NOLA for 10 years regularly. We would spend most of the time with family, but generally would swing down during the day to one of the restaurants there at least once a trip (yes I'm aware there are great restaurants in other parts of town, we go there too, etc etc).
We stopped coming for a few years after the wife's grandmother passed, but went to the Quarter in late 2019, as BLM was starting to gain strength.
Haven't been since, and probably won't again. I'm not sure if it was the fact we'd been away for a few years and I'm now in my 30s, but holy shite the place felt a lot more 3rd world than I remembered.
Is this just me? Am I the only one who thinks things there have gone down hill in a measurable level? I felt safer (and probably was) in central Mexico.

Quarter has become a dumpster after dark every night
Posted on 12/20/20 at 9:53 pm to cokebottleag
It’s a seedy dump. Worse than it has been in 20 years.

Well you are older. But also correct on the FQ. IMO it has gotten worse. Less visible police presence, more reliance on cameras to solve crimes after the fact, etc.

You are just older. The FQ has always been shite.
They almost bulldozed it many many year ago because it was so shite, so that should tell you something.

Wait until next month.
The FQ Taskforce shite is very visible. They might not be any longer though. Sidney going to have to bail them out again.

It’s gotten worse no doubt

I went to school in the FQ. I don't ever remember anyone wanting to tear it down. But you are correct. It has gone down hill. And has not hit bottom yet.

We were talking about the space between us all
And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth
Then it's far too late
When they pass away

Had lunch in the Quarter Friday. Typically, it would be packed...nice day, Friday before Christmas, etc. After lunch our group got one drink at 33, then caught an Uber to Bayou Beer Garden. It was bad, no one around, bunch of fellas on bikes looking for money. Plus some Karen in a Subaru driving down Bourbon yelled at me for not wearing a mask.

Was downtown all day today with family who wanted to go take pics at the usual Xmas decoration spots. Roosevelt, Ritz, Windsor Court, etc. It is 100% worse downtown than anytime I can remember since the 90’s. I saw one (ONE!) NOPD unit all day. Some jackass on a dirt bike riding up and down Decatur doing wheelies and dodging in and out of traffic. Junkies everywhere. Hurricane evacuees, I am certain, sitting I front of boarded up businesses on Canal in lawn chairs drinking beer. shite has definitely changed down there.

It’s a shithole, go figure
Posted on 12/20/20 at 10:51 pm to cokebottleag
My bad. I'm older and thought you were talking about the 25 cent piece.

I would go to Lafittes about 1-2 times a month and just people watch. Bourbon was always a shithole, but tourists flocked to it. Started riding through there on my bike daily during the shutdown because it was nice and peaceful during the lockdown. Went down Friday for lunch. This is the worst I’ve ever seen it now. 80% of the businesses are boarded up, drifters are all over the place and I probably got asked at least 17 times about where I got my shoes at.
