Did all these FBI investigations into colleges start with the basketball?

Has anyone been following this from the beginning? What lead to the FBI getting involved with colleges?

No. It all started with two Adidas officials and a single agent. They were looking into general fraud and bribery I believe. And the coaching stuff just kind of fell into their lap while investigating

This. What Tobin did was really bad, in a financial crimes sense. But he gets off light and Aunt Becky will "fry" for something that nobody really gives a crap about. She helped her apparently idiotic daughter get into a good school. Who wouldn't do that? Maybe not in the way she did it, mind you. Just say "here's half a million for your scholarship program. When can my daughter start?"
I couldn't care less about the basketball stuff either. Except Will Wade. That's just funny.

The investigation centers around a scumbag “handler” named Christian Dawkins, who allegedly arranged payments of 250K for 3 high school players to sign with Addidas sponsored schools.

Football is coming next. Needed to lay blueprint with something easy like basketball that wouldn’t involve a huge fight and guaranteed loss by government from the start. That will be the next wave. Tax fraud and conspiracy on tax fraud claims will bring everyone to their knees, including boosters, in the third wave.

For a public university it is considered fraud against the university, and is a federal crime. Read paragraph 3 and 4 of the justice department indictment against Dawkins and Gatto. linked. Actually all of it is interesting as it explains many NCAA rules that a lot of people think they know, but couldn't be more misinformed.

Yeah football programs better have started when this broke with some kind of clean up. Or making moves to get peeps out that would be involved.
I wonder if this had anything to do with UT moving away from adidas. But Hart was a pos, so who knows.
Any school with an IMG kid(s) better get things in order too. Even learning how to fake some docs/emails.
The kiffin year, and his stench that hung over the first 2 dooley yrs got me use to waking up every day wondering what new would come up. So not delusional like lsu fans are

That's not how it works.
In the Federal system, you give a proffered interview in which you have to give information on all your criminal actions and pertinent information on criminal actions in return for reduction of points used in sentencing.
