If you read the wikipedia article she led a relatively fulfilling life under the circumstances.

I know I saw some kind of documentary about a guy in an iron lung. He would save money for months or years to “hire” a hooker. He could survive for a little while outside of the device for bathing purposes. He looked like a hermit crab out of its shell. Very bizarre.
