I was thinking the same thing. This may just be a really slow time for them but it seems like having 5 people working behind the counter is a bit much.

don't see how that's possible, but anyway, I thought I recall reading(when this first happened,) that they had had run ins and were close to coming to blows at this job

I remember hearing rumors that they were beefing but don't remember confirmation.

If they were beefing it's very bad for Chauvin but it ruins any political narrative.

How soon after this do you think the black guy wearing the American flag shirt started saying that the American flag represented white supremacy?

What did your departments have on the books in the way of perps and restraining them prone-style? Similar to Minny or what?

You'd think it would've already come out what the manual says
Blood and air chokes were deadly force on the continuum. They were once allowed for restraint and control similar to a joint lock or PPCT but they moved away from before I began (early 2000s).

I'm about 95% sure there was a PowerPoint slide that got circulated or maybe a page from their manual that described the tactic Chauvin used provided it didn't occlude the airway. I think I saw that some months back.

EDIT: I see I didn't really answer a part of your question. Knees to the neck were fine as a means of control provided a person's breathing wasn't being halted.

I knelt on plenty of peoples' backs and necks. No one died. No one couldn't breathe.

I'm sure? But for 8-9 minutes? OR would you go for a hobble device before that? Did you think his knee was high on the neck and back? I understand a knee needs to be high to control, but the neck?

Unfortunately, yes.

Sorry. Reason I asked is that you'd know what the color change looks like. It is glaring, near immediate, and unforgettable.

I looked at it like this - once I go hands-on with you, you're mine. I'm your daddy. I'm responsible for you. If you've aggressed the situation far enough to warrant me removing you from the car and putting you on the ground, you aren't going anywhere. You bought the ticket, you take the ride. I wasn't about to let you just get up and wander away or in any manner begin to dictate the scene.

I get that. So I will go again to my hobble question.

I didn't time it, obviously. But on a busy night when I'm deep in a block somewhere and my radio fell off because someone wanted to fight, I'd kneel on someone for a while to catch my breath, cuff up, get my radio, flag down arriving units with my flashlight, etc.

Again, in this case, the knee didn't stop the felon from breathing. He didn't asphyxiate.

I disagree with the color change being immediate, but I'm not a medical professional. The only time I noticed significant color change was from a bleed out. So, I may be wrong, but in my personal experience that's not the case.

I get that. So I will go again to my hobble question.

I didn't carry one. Wasn't required. They've actually led to some cases of positional asphyxia (which this case isn't) so maybe they were being phased out.
