Yea, I have watched almost the whole trial and I really feel a conviction coming. What is crazy to me, is that if he was charged with just 1 count, regardless of the count, I think he would get off. That's why I really think its bullshite you can be charged with multiple types of murder for the same death. It psychologically biases a juror.
The DA should have to pick a charge they feel can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt...obviously they have doubt about the tougher charges or they wouldn't be charging him with the lower ones....especially when the penalties must run concurrently

Derek Chauvin trial: Day 15 - Closing arguments begin today
I have a question for you lawyer people. In closing arguments does the defense rebut the prosecutions closing argument, or do they go over the facts of the case as to why he is innocent? Or both?

both - while balancing need to keep attention and not bore.

It would be both. Nelson will lay out is vision of what happened and reiterate his defense witnesses testimony which in itself rebuts the prosecution.

Defense gets only one shot, the state is allowed a rebuttal , or second bite at the apple.

But, If I am reading between the lines, and your question is one of strategy. When it is the defenses turn, does he rebut what he just heard, or recap facts favorable to his side?

Hybrid answer, IMHO should do both. Rebut what you just heard, and have a couple "one liners" ready to rebut what the jury was just told and use the Govt words against them, BUT also, its your turn to recap the case and bring to light things most favorable to your case.

All you need is one hold out. I think he'll find at least one.

Manslaughter is not going to be enough to appease the masses.

Nothing will, short of first degree murder, followed by immediate public execution. There would probably still be riots, though.

I believe this ending will be a changing point in America. The anarchists will either be stood up to and put down or they will run rampant without opposition and the country is lost forever.

Can't believe he tries to exhibit fault for not letting that dumbass firefighter chick render aid. Wow. So if a bystander has said I'm a cardiologist - let's open him up and help that would've been prudent?

I just hope Nelson really REALLY hammers home the 'reasonable doubt, innocent until proven guilty, and that it's the prosecution's job to PROVE guilt and not the other way around' angles for the jury.

Make them see that this isn't some special criminal justice system for police officers, that it's the same one that they all abide by and live under. It would be easy to throw away one man to spare more rioting, but next it could be you or someone you love on trial when they're innocent.

I think his best bet is to acknowledge the societal pressure present, but show the other side to that. Do you want to live in a country where societal pressure determines the outcomes of trials? How would that be any different than something like the salem witch trials, or days of hanging blacks, etc?

It's a slippery slope to mob rule, and if you think riots are bad just wait until society solely determines guilt in every facet like we're headed. That opens the door wide open to vigilantism, authoritarianism, and fascism. Throughout history, any time it's been left up to society to determine guilt or innocence and inflict punishment, it's ended VERY badly.

LMAO at the state saying use "common sense" like this is an open and shut case for them after trying to backdoor test results at the 11th hour on Thursday than nearly and should have led to a mistrial. That is absolutely rich.

Has the prosecution been going since 930? I’d imagine they will be wrapping up shortly if so.

Would think they would hold off on defense until after lunch and then give the jury the case mid to late afternoon.

So what’s the schedule for what happens next? Defense presents their closing argument then back to prosecution then what?
