So why didn’t the defense attorney follow up and let the last thing the jury heard from him be “he was incoherent” during that stop and may have ingested drugs.

There is no fricking way. I guarantee he was taking 1 every 20 minutes to get to a total of 7. Defense should bring this up. Prosecution is trying to show that Floyd didnt overdose in 5 minutes ( after swallowing drugs) so it didn't happen this time.
